      Strange Soul Feeling

This happened to me last week:

I went to bed at about 10pm in order to WBTB. I woke up at 3am, filled out my dream journal, had some tea then when back to bed.
I lay in bed and I felt SP start to come on. As it did i felt like my soul was peeling out of me starting from my head down to me feet. Like someone was picking up my doll-like body from the back of my neck.
I then automatically turned to be facing on to my back now facing my ceiling. I opened my eyes. I checked to see if I was dreaming....but I wasn't. I was fully awake.. no FA.

What was this feeling? It was before my body was paralysed and I felt like i was still fully awake with my eyes closed.

Can't say for sure, but it sounds quite like a description of the beginnings of an OBE.
Of course, that's just one possibility, but i thought i'd throw it out there.

well, my first impression was that I was having an OBE, but it happened so quickily after going to bed and why wasn't I in a dream or anything when I opened my eyes?

that happens some times. The SPs were it feels really painful, but they don't last long. The warning sings for those is a buzzing or plusing sound in your ear so just roll on your side to avoid them.

I've had those feelings while in the midst of a WILD attempt before. It's no big deal. It does fit the description of the start of an OBE, but I've never experienced it go to quite that extent.

It sounds to me like closer to the end of a WILD, where you may choose where to go from there.
I usually prefer to go straight into a dream, but sometimes, I decide to take flight in another type of dream I have (see sig).....and I do think they are dreams!!

I can't see how this relates to what happened to me.
I just re-read what I posted and I was a little bit unclear.

What happened was, I felt my soul peel out of me, starting from my head. However, I was the soul (that's where I wasn't clear) and it felt like I was being peeled out. At this time I was already on my side.
I then felt like I was quite loose from my actual body (if it was). My head to my waist was out of my body and my legs were still on the bed. My arms flopping down like I was a lifeless doll. I then felt myself (as the 'soul') turn over onto my back and down onto the bed again - as this happened I could feel my legs peel out as they naturally moved onto the back position.

I then opened my eyes, looked to my left to see if my body was next to me...but it wasn't. I explained the rest in my first post.

That does sound a lot like SP, somewhat like the floating sensation.
That has happened a few times to me as well, and when that happens, I bust out of my bed (in the dream, of course!!), then I will go in the other room and read an open book (it is so fun! You ought to try doing that!) Sometimes, I might find myself doing a WILD as well!

Sounds to me like SP. I would say that the sensation you describe as your 'soul peeling out of your body' is just your dream body - This is just my personal belief and a judgement made through personal experience.
Another common sensation is a feeling that you are looking from within yourself, kind of like your mind has jumped 10ft back - It's hard to explain.
I have had many, many experiences with SP, sometimes I simply wake up after these sensations, other times I manage to enter a dream (usually in my room)
A few times I have managed to float my dreambody above my sleeping body and can actually feel both bodies simultaniously... the mind is very bizzare
      Are you dreaming or awake?

You must also remember that people experience different things. For you it could be totally different than it is for anyone else. Remember that above all. Don't get frightened.

thanks for all the replies guys. Much appreciated - it seems like it is just a part of SP.

Thanks for reminding me of that. I tend to think to myself during SP or even WILD,
"This is strange, I haven't read about this before." which makes me slighty....I'm not thinking "frightened", but the 'fear of the unknown' and the fact that this experience seems unique to myself makes me quite nervous.
