Thread: UPDATE (5.25.06) LD MP3 Download

READ THIS FIRST. The goal of this thread is to develop and share audio files that generate LDs when played during the night. The first 25 posts describe various experiments and difficulties in file sharing. After solving the file sharing problem, MP3 files are provided in subsequent posts that you can download and use. New files are posted every few days as the script is revised.

Two major directions have emerged. 1) Play a short audio file, typically 10 to 15 minutes, at normal volume after waking up from a dream as you return to sleep. 2) Loop an audio file continuously at low volume for most of the night. I myself prefer 1) but other people report that 2) works well but may require several days or weeks to be effective.

The preferred way of using these files is to set your alarm clock so you wake up after a few hours of sleep, then start the track and listen to the audio file as you return to sleep. Mentally repeat the essence of the script during the pauses. For example, repeat "I recognize the dream world" / "I realize I'm dreaming" / “I am conscious in this dream” etc. Be creative and don't just passively listen to the audio file and let your mind wander into oblivion. You can also visualize yourself being lucid in the dream you just woke up from.

The ZenVortex files are generated using a text-to-speech (TTS) program (TextAloud by NextUp.com using ATT’s Crystal voice) and are posted at www.yousendit.com for you to download. You can play them on your computer, or use an MP3 player, or burn them onto a CD. Please report your results and any suggestions either on this thread or PM me. Of course, you are welcome to create your own audio files and post them here too.

Great idea for a topic. I just started experimenting with this last night.

I made a cd that had: tibetan meditation music (for the time when I began getting to sleep), and audio of myself talking, recounting past experiences. I set it on loop and put headphones on.

I noticed that DC's were talking to me, but I couldn't hear what they were saying because my own voice (from the cd) was drowning it out. At one point in one of the dreams I took off the headphones (in the dream) and was then able to hear the last DC speak. I became lucid by doing a RC right after this.

What's interesting is that for most of the dream, as I was listening to my voice, the audio playing was actually SHAPING the events of the dream.

So for tonight, I made a cd full of clips telling myself to do RC's and telling myself "This is a dream". Also, I incorporated memory jogging techniques, and audio recordings of myself from the past. I have a feeling that these past events will be recreated tonight, but in ways that I could never predict.

I'll keep updating as this progresses.

I've been recording myself with a digital voice recorder while I sleep. Often I speak in complete sentences while dreaming. I'm confident that when I become lucid regularly that will make it easier to describe my dreams in real time in the waking world.

I'm currently experimenting with a Text-To-Speech program (TextAloud from NextUp.com) which converts text files into a voice. Very easy to use. I got the program up and running within 2 minutes of installing it and use the ATT Natural Voice "Crystal", which is lifelike and really pleasant to listen to. Highly recommended, beautiful natural voice, really charming. Some words are not spelled "correctly" but have been tweaked to make them sound more natural):

You're welcome to copy and paste this script into TextAloud or any other TTS program you are using. The Pause is the seconds between sentences. The entire script is 2 minutes long and is repeated 5 times for a total of 10 minutes. I burned it onto a CD which I play before sleep and between dreams. Started this experiment a couple of nights ago. So far no lucidity but I'm sure its just a matter of time before it kicks in.

Having researched several text-to-speech programs, I was very impressed with TextAloud and highly recomment it. You can download a free trial version with Microsoft's "Mary", which is a basic voice, lot of clicks and thuds. Definitely worth the upgrade to "Crystal".

Sounds (pun not intended) cool man.

For now I'm experimenting using my own voice to attain lucidity, but over time I may try your method.

I think its time for something fresh. This appears to be more direct.

Hmm.. I actually created a similar thread for anyone interested in using text-to-speech to create scripts, too bad I didn't find this first. It is called text-to-speech hypnosis scripts. What I am doing is using a slightly modified version of ZenVortex's latest script, and playing it back on loop on a volume where I can hear some sound, but not the actual words. The idea is that I can't hear the words, but my subconscious can (I hope this is actualy true), so instead of me forcing the words on the subconcious, my subconsious is listening, while I do something else. I am actually listening to it as I write.

I have tried this method. i recorded myself over a calm meditiation track and put it on my mp3. everyfive minites i would go " you are dreaming" unfortunatly i couldn't fall asleep with it playing. so i'm trying to figure out some way were it wnt start playing until about an hour after i'ver fallen asleep

Here is my latest script, which produced a short LD yesterday !!!!!!! This is specifically written for ATT's Crystal. I tried other voices but Crystal is the best. The script module is 2 minutes 20 seconds at TextAloud speed setting 123. I put 3 modules together to create a 7 minute track, which I play at bedtime and after waking up from a dream.

I like the idea of looping the script as a subliminal. As far as sending the MP3, I've asked the Admin if there is any way to post MP3 files in the Forum.

There are dangers in posting mp3's. I don't think anyone here is murderous and evil enough to do this, but what if someone put an extra-low volume track with some horrid subliminal message, that your conscious brain would completely ignore, as it is drowned out by the main track, but your subconscious would hear. I personally would not use an mp3 someone else created, but then again, I can be really paranoid at times.

I guess people might as well post mp3's, though, as not everyone has the want to put out $30ish to buy a TTS (text-to-speech) program, and create their own files. Anyways, if you go by the danger factor religeously, then you couldn't listen to any music, TV, or any artificial sound for fear of subliminal messagery, which would be completely ridiculous and stupid. The benefits probably outweigh the risks here, and like I said, I am kind of paranoid about this kind of thing (ever since seeing the Simpsons episode with the yvan et nyaj (join the navy spelled backwards) thing), and no one is going to go evil with subliminal messages, so I don't think there is any need to worry about using other peoples' mp3's.

Anyways, if you post mp3's, please also post the script you used, as then anyone can create their own files of with a TTS program, or by recording someone saying it. It would be interesting to a tone generator and put it quietly along with the audio using a program like Audacity (which is free and good), to create brainwave generation things that accompany the sound, and see if it helps.

I think i've said this in other threads, but I tend to disagree about Crystal being the best, and prefer Peter, the L&H british voice. (An added bonus, this voice is free).

I sure hope my subliminal playing helps, as I just listened to it for about 2 hours (though I couldn't actuallly hear the words, it feels great to be free of the background noise.

I just got an mp3 with 10 mins of monotonic calm rain, it's totally relaxing, I'm gonna try it tomorrow morning, sort of combined with WBTB...

Yeah, it doesn't have a sexy woman saying things to me but it should make a difference. I'll psyche myself up to recognize rain as a dream sign or something.

Penguin's comments are well taken but your paranoia is probably unfounded. If you do have nightmares about possible negatives on the MP3 files, you can convert them into LDs.

There are a lot of possibilities using this type of script at low volume during the day and also during sleep, worth experimenting with. Also modulating the sound with brainwave entrainment frequencies or running a separate brainwave entrainment track. The thing I like about TTS is that its very fast to tweak the suggestions. For example, I got a bad dream a few nights ago about one of the suggestions I was using, so I staggered out of bed, revised the suggestion, and burned a new CD before going back to sleep. Took less than 5 minutes.

Please, can you upload that woman's voice? And that rain can be cool too! Thank you very much both.

Yeah, like I said, my paranoi of subliminal messaging comes from a simpsons episode where they were using subliminal messaging to get people to join the navy, so it is definitely unfounded. Also I definitely agree on the thing about TTS being great as you can easily trreak suggestions, I love the idea. Thinking back, as long as the Mp3 doesn't produce a total overload of the senses (which I felt the one Rainbow Werewolf did, though it was pretty cool), I will be happy to use other peoples mp3's, it saves me effort .

By the way, ZenVortex, which suggestion produced bad dreams, because the subliminal is making me stressed out somewhat. I think I'll try creating my own script anyways, though.

The subliminal thing could be interesting. For example, the way I am using it is to play 3 consecutive modules ( = 7 minutes) at full volume after waking up between dreams. This could be immediately followed by a "subliminal" low volume loop for the remainder of the CD ( = 80 minutes). The other thing I'm going to try, probably tonight, is combining the script with a WBTB. Get up after 3 hours of sleep and and do some chess problems for 30 minutes, then play the script as I return to sleep.

I guess one of the additions I put into the script I took from ZenVortex was the one that produced the stress. Not last night, but the night before, I had a scary dream which I woke up sweating from. I didn't remember it even on waking up, but I was somewhat scared. It was inconvient, too, as I set an alarm to 4:40 to WILD (which I never heard as the headphones fell out of my ears (iPod alarm)), but as I was scared when I woke up (at about 3:40), I chickened out and decided to sleep, even though I know WILDs can't hurt you.

Here's my new TTS script, which I'm going to try tonight. (TextAloud by NextUp using the ATT voice Crystal, with running speed = 123). The file consists of the following elements, where {{Pause=3}} means 3 seconds between sentences:

1) The following 1 minute file is looped 7 times for a total of 7 minutes:

2) This is followed by 33 minutes of silence, which is followed by 40 minutes of the identical previous file looped with the time between sentences increased to 9 seconds and the volume reduced to 33%. The time required for this new file is 2 minutes, so the new file is looped 20 times for a total of 40 minutes.

3) The structure of the complete track is therefore 7 minutes @ 100% volume, 33 minutes of silence, 40 minutes @ 33% volume. This is a .wav file that fills up a CD. There is no background, no waves, or drones, just the voice.

The way I intend to use this is to set my alarm clock to get a few hours of sleep, then play the CD on my Walkman as I return to sleep after waking up. If I wake up before the alarm clock goes off, I will play it then. The goal is to play it after waking up from a dream, as I return to sleep. Rather than just passively listen to the 7 minute track, I think it's important to mentally repeat the words during the 3 second pauses.

I have a Radio Shack extension speaker fixed to the headboard that works well and doesn't require batteries. The 7 minute file is played at adequate volume so the 40 minute file @ 33% volume is not so loud that it wakes me up.

That way, the mind is saturated with "dream recognition" suggestions as it drifts off to sleep, and these suggestions are restimulated during sleep by the 33% section.

I came up with an idea for listening to audio while sleeping. I find that if I wake up and put on an audio file, I cannot get back to sleep either because I'm excited about what might happen, or that I get distracted by the music and I am unable to sleep.

I just use a discman and wear headphones, the cd player I have is some really old and dodgey Panasonic effort, but it has a function where you can program the order of the tracks. So on Cool Edit I made a 30 minute wav. of silence. Then I burnt that as the first track on the cd, and a lucid inducing track after. I am yet to try it, as I only did it today. But the idea is to program the cd player so it plays the first track say 8-10 times in a row, then have the lucid induction track following. That way I can put the cd player on when I go to bed, and I don't have to wake up later in the night to put the track on. Therefore being distracted by the music will not be an issue, and knowing that there is going to be a full 4-5 hours of silence I can just go to sleep not expecting that in a few minutes some bloke will start telling me im dreaming and keeping me wake.

I don't know how this will work, and I don't know how many times I should put the 30 min. silence on before the track starts playing. So any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I use an MP3 player that could support 100's of hours audio. That is something I can do. Record silence in a very low quality MP3 for about 4 hours or so. Then bring in the lucid in another MP3 file that is higher quality like 128kbps or 192kbps.

I haven't left something to play through the night, since I prefer to wake up at 4AM or so, so that I can write down the dreams I had up till then (which I would forget if I slept through then night). Then, I try going back to sleep while telling myself repeatedly I am dreaming.

As long as you work on practicing your reality checks, and making them a habit, it should come out in your dream (in theory). I am getting better now where I am starting to do RCs when I first wake up. I hope this habit will pay off.

Last night's script produced some vivid "good feeling" dreams that indicated we are going in the right direction but the script is too long and must be edited. Today, I'm working on the modified script below.

This is a dream. {{Pause=3}}

There several ways to use this. The first is to loop it for several minutes and listen to it after waking up from a dream, so the brain is programmed as it returns to sleep. If you are using a TTS program, simply cut and paste the script as many times you want.

Another way is to start with 30 to 40 minutes of silence, making it easier to return to sleep, then loop the script to the end of the CD. If you are using a TTS program, you can generate the silence simply by putting {{Pause=1800}} at the beginning of the script, which will give you 30 minutes of silence. It may be a good idea to put a few words before {{Pause=1800}}, which would allow you to adjust the volume. For example: "Conscious dreams tonight. {{Pause=1800}}, then the full script.

Yet another way is to do both, which is what I am doing. Start with an initial loop of several minutes, then 30 to 40 minutes of silence, then another loop at lower volume until the end of the CD. I suggest increasing the time between the suggestions from 3 seconds to 9 seconds in the seond loop, to avoid overstimulation.

I don't have any experience of MP3 players and use a Walkman connected to a Radio Shack speaker attached to my headboard, which doesn't require battery power and sounds just fine with a female voice -- ATT's Crystal, because of the higher frequencies.

Can you sometime generate an MP3 of that for us that don't have the program. That would be helpful. Thx.

1) The following script loops 10 times = 8 minutes. You listen to this as you return to sleep after waking up from a dream. I recommend you don't just listen to it passively but mentally repeat the words during the blank spaces after each sentence (about 5 seconds). That way you are reinforcing the suggestions.

2) Approximately 32 minutes of silence follows so you can get back to sleep.

3) The script then loops 25 times = 40 minutes. Tthe space between sentences is increased to 12 seconds to avoid overstimulation and the volume is reduced to 27%. This means that if you play the first loops at a low but adequate volume, the second loops should not be loud enough to wake you up.

There are no waves, no drones, no ambient sounds or anything else. Just the simple suggestions spoken by Crystal. Good luck and let me know what results you get.
