Thread: WILD help

i just attemtped to WILD and i dont know if i did sumthin wrong but I got into a phase where I didnt know what to do. I started seeing flashes of light and my eyeballs felt like they were vibrating or sumthing but then it kind of gradually died down.. not knowing what to do I just kinda left it at that, but the feeling didnt come back, neither did the flashes. what did I do wrong?

Well, you have to keep focusing on your breathing, but also concentrate on the hypnagogic imagery that's supposed to come up, you've got farther than I have though

Goddamnit... let me tell you my experiance with this... and while your answering his questions please answer mine too One time I thought I got to the vibrations but I bet it was a dream... actually i'm pretty positive it was... Also, HOLY CRAP I CANT GET ANYWHERE. HOW IS "HI" SUPPOSED TO COME UP?!!?! I just lie there on my back or whatever, I get bored and start thinking of something. I get into it and fall asleep like normal. NOTHING HAPPENS!! please help me along with him...

Also for dragon, I know the method. You have to "passively watch" the images. Don't try to change them and stuff. When you start seing deeper vivider pictures, try to passively enter the dreams. Whatever that means.

well i guess u could say i gotta problem with the "listen to your breathing thing" cause Im only 15 so i live at home and living at home means noisy siblings ... so I use a fan to blot out the noise, meaning I cant hear my own breathing, so what else can u suggest?

Well, I'm not really an expert so I can't really help, I have no idea what to do, I've never even had a Lucid Dream! I'm pretty much in wasup's situation, I lay there and have absolutely no idea what to do, I focus on my breathing and keep the mental phrase "I will have a WILD, I will see hypnagogic imagery"

Nothing has really come up, so far.

the hypnogogic imagery is just a phase that comes and goes. it is basically you shifting levels of awareness and the side effects that come because of that. same thing happens when you to sleep, move your arm in a semi-dream and then *shock* wake and actually move your arm. key to the concentrating on your breathing is that you get really really in tune with yourself and what is going on. that leads to an oobe or a lucid dream.

my recommendation is no to have any mental phrase, in fact in my experience it is counter-productive. just simple clear your mind of thoughts, instead try to hold a visual image in your minds eye, like your hands for instance. keep trying to hold that image while you are breathing. eventually you will see your hands for real in the dreamstate or obe state and *bamn* you are lucid dreaming.

dragon - you didn't do anything wrong at all, grats to you! you got to the first stage underneath normal conscious awareness. the keep is to keep still, keep breathing and keep going on, even if the imagery or sensations go away. don't give up. don't think of the flashes of light as *the* pre-cursor to a lucid dream or obe. just relax, keep breathing and go through it. eventually you will really shift into the dream state and it will happen.

That is very difficult to do I keep catching myself wandering off with my toughts, but I'll try just thinking about my hands next time though!

yeah I get HI all the time, almost on command when i'm trying to sleep. I've noticed though that it goes away after a while. I was wondering if that was normal.

A technique I use that never seems to fail but it works for me - don't know about others....

After waking at around 3 am or whatever I clear my mind and repeatedly say in my mind and feel it through my total being (be obsessive...it helps!):

"I remain aware as my body goes to sleep."

Say it with eyes closed - make yourself obey it - succumb to it like a hypnotic command (which it is) - squash everything out of your mind but that one thing!!!!!!

It doesn't matter if you do this repeatedly for about an hour - depends on what time you have to wake up though

After a while you'll become drowsy, heavier, more relaxed (one hopes!), at this point DON'T give up and let go into oblivion.
Just maintain an UNBENDING intent - think of nothing else!
F*** anything else - be obsessive.

This is guaranteed to bring on a powerfully vivid dream in which your strong thread of awareness will notice something being 'different' (it can be a very definite feeling of 'something's not right') and then 'POW' you're out of body or awake in the dream state.

It is my Piez de Resistance, without fail......

mrguytodd - i have a couple of exercises to clear the mind if you want to try them, they are specifically tailored to stop your thoughts:

1. Go for a walk before bed, stare slightly above the horizon as you walk and look at everything all at once, don't focus on any one thing. at the same time curl your fingers like a claw (that moves your energy down lower away from your head). See if you can walk for like 15-20 minutes like that with no thoughts. it totally works, the view of the entire horizon all at once overloads your mind and kills your thoughts.

2. Either at night or early in the morning, sit on your bed or futon, or wherever you normally do dreaming. Sit with your feet touching each other (soles of feet against each other). Put a couple of pillows down so you can lean over and rest your forehead against the pillows. Just breath, relax and watch your thoughts disappear.

Both work very well for me, the more you do the two exercises the easier it is to turn off your thoughts just by focusing on it.

I found that inducing "daydream" while waiting for WILD works best for me - I dont pay attention to my body, just follow the thoughts and then I enter WILD...

Yes, it's hard to do (clear the mind) you if you are serious about having WILD then you need to be serious about the discipline it takes. Meditate every day so you can learn to clear your mind. And, just because you try, once, twice, three times.... keep trying.. sometimes it feels like it's taking forever but you will eventually get there and when you do, you'll be writing on this board about how worth it all the hard work was.

Good luck (I'm talking like an expert now and I only had 1 WILD, which was this am).

How long does it usually take to start dreaming while WILDing? does it vary?

Just to simplify, would you guys (and girls) describe WILD as maintaining consciousness while drifting to bodily sleep?
