      REM-Dreamer diary

      Hi !
      I am a newbie here (see my post here : http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28168 ) .

I have just bought a REM-Dreamer (http://www.remdreamer.com/about.htm ) and I’ll post here my experiences with it, I hope it can interest some of you.

First, you have to know if you order this product, you have to be patient. I think the manufacturer do manually each REM-Dreamer when they are bought. I paid mine march, 17, and I got it tow days ago, April 4. And but the vendor and I are in Europe, if you’re in USA I suspect it will be longer.

So I got it Thursday. Naturally, the first night I tried it!

Well… There is a bad new for me. It is definitely uncomfortable for me! In fact I slept two nights with it. I usually sleep on a side. And, I don’t know why, but I need to have me head aligned with the direction of my body. I found that impossible to do with REM-Dreamer. Because the wide electronic part, when I am on my right side, let’s say, it like I look towards the left. Maybe it is not an issue for most people, it is for me. A the end of the night. I got my neck very stiff, uncomfortable, and in fact at the end of the night, I was tired, because I woke up several times in the nights.

Next night… I’ll sleep without the REM-Dreamer, because I feel I need a full sleep night.

But… I will continue to use it. I already have a significant experience. As you probably know, this kind of device detect dream state, and send a light signal. I saw that in a dream, last night! I was reading in a gloomy carven, when someone came in, and pointed his flashlight to my face, blinding me!

Well, too bad I did not a reality check, the dream stayed non lucid. But I think it encouraging, I will post here my next results !

The important factor in using such devices is training yourself to recognize the triggered cues in your dreams. The light could take the form of anything from an actual room light or a TV turning on, fireworks going off, and even as subtle as the sun rising. To practice awareness of such events, it would probably benefit you to do reality checks in waking life when you do actions such as turning on a light or stepping outside in the daytime.

Yes, I know that and I decided to do it. The only problem is that most of the time, I forget to do reality checks, in daytime. No wonder if I forget too in dream time !

I bought the same thing April 3rd and still haven't received it. I emailed them on the 23rd and told them and they said sorry for the delay and that it would be shipped out today. I don't know what happened, I got the impression that either they forgot to ship it or it took them 20 days to make it. Either way, I should get it within the next week. I didn't want to post complaining about it cuz I understand that things happen, and I didn't want to go nagging about it at least until I got it. I look forward to seeing what else you have to say about it. Keep us up to date

The discomfort of these masks is one of the bigger misgivings I have about them.
One day I'll get the time and resources to work on my dreamcatcher glove again.. *sigh*

mine was $160 US. I can't comment on the comfort yet, I'll make a thread about it once I've had some good experience with it. I don't want it to cheat towards LD, but as an aid and as an experiment, I want to know more about it so I can contribute my experience. The funny thing is that I've gotten a lot of experience doing it "naturally" while I've been waiting for it that I would have been spending using an artificial method.

      DreamMaker Pro

Yeah, I can understand your point about the research aspect. I posted my results when I purchased that piece of crap Dream Maker(WellnessTools). That stupid thing used facial twitching as a REM dector. To boot it only had a sensor on one side. So here's the kicker, I was having a lucid dream, and I remembered in my sleep I was wearing the mask. I was looking for the lights, listening for the sound and nothing. Least to say I sold the thing on Ebay and got my money back. It didnt work for me but I was having a lucid on my own.

Note: When I first got the thing I put it on and closed my eyes and moved them as much as possible like I was in REM. No detection at all, it seem to trigger when I grinned or smiled or opened my mouth. (facial movements)

YAAAAAAY I GOT IT!!! I'm so happy I love it It's about damn time too! It took it over a month to get here! I've read a lot of bad first impressions, that it didn't work, it's not comfortable, etc. So far I only have two complaints (aside from the loooooooooong shipping time). It's pretty comfortable, if not a little bit stiff. It leaves a bit of an opening at the bottom which isn't a big deal. I'm very sensitive to light when I sleep so I'm glad to have something to cover my eyes for the most part. It's very customizable, and it detects eye movement very well. There were a few misses from side to side, but up and down was spot on. My two complaints are this: 1) the instructions are a little hard to follow, the English is slightly off. So it takes some tinkering with. 2) The light intensity is set from 1 to 6. 1 being not bright enough I feel to stimulate you in your sleep and 6 burning a hole into your head. And the leap from 1 to 2 is huge, 2 not being much better than 6. You honestly feel the heat when anything 2 or higher is flashing, which I don't think you should be able to do with a tiny little LED light. I'm a heavy sleeper so I immediately set it for heavy sleeping setting and put it on, and I still haven't recovered. It's not quite like a bright camera flash cuz it's 10 seconds worth of it, it's more like a numbness in my eyeballs now. Then again I did this several times trying to find a softer setting and if I'd get used to it, I DIDNT! Still, this is easily avoided from now on and I've figured out the directions for the most part, so overall I'm pleased. I'll let you know what happens once I actually get to use it

yeah I've read enough bad things about wellness tools that I'll accept that is sucks. The weird thing is, now that I think about it, anyone that's posted anything about REM Dreamer eventually just stops posting... hmmmmm

      REM

Well, its probably one of those things you just need to keep working on. Don't give up, put your money into research for a good cause. There really are no bulletin boards regarding REM Dreamer and people should know. I posted my issues with DreamMaker immediately after testing about a week. That thing really was crap. Bruce didnt do the research and was trying to make a fast buck it seems. Using Audio files isnt practical for married folks. If I had alarm for 3AM to loops some Audio File saying "your dreaming" my wife would kill me. Right now though its okay, I'm not at our house temporarily.

How much did you $pay and how long was the wait?

It was $160, and although the site says 3-8 days for delivery, but 20 days after I ordered it I still didn't have it so I emailed them. They simply said sorry for the delay and that it was shipped that day. Seems like they either forgot about it or it took them 20 days to make it. I got today, and I ordered it April 3rd It took 8 days after the shipping.

Anyway, I tinkered with it some more and I'm less concerned. I think it'll be fine. My gf tried it on and she says it's not that intense so I guess it's just me being paranoid. I'll make a thread all about it once I've had more experience with it. And yeah the audio tapes are really inconvenient if you have someone else sleeping with you. My gf jokingly thinks I'm a loon for all the LD stuff, and although she's coming over slightly she's not ready for the tapes lol. I've listened to them, and she's let me do it for fun, but overall the experience was more trouble than it was worth. I wouldn't want to hear something I'm not interested in "brainwashing" me while I sleep

Yeah, my wife thinks I'm nuts for all this Lucid stuff. She hasnt had a lucid dream but I told her once you do you'll be on a quest to have them as often as possible. The issues with the audio stuff is the volume. Its really hard to get it perfect everynight. Its either too loud or not loud enough which makes all the difference in the world. The mask is more private which is cool.

I vastly over estimated how deep I sleep, so the first night wasn't successful. I slept very well with it on my head, it wasn't unpleasant at all. In fact, I'm so sensitive to light when I sleep even the alarm clock distracts me. So it was nice to have something to block out the light honestly. Here was the problem though. I figured that I was a deep sleeper so I set it for pretty deep settings. 7 seconds of flashing, about 4 seconds of a soft beeping. The thing is, when u put it on you set it in segments of 10 minutes to allow you to fall asleep before it starts detecting REM. That way you're not trying to fall asleep, roll over, and it starts flashing you in the face. It's pretty convenient, and if at 30 seconds before the wait period ends it gives you a slight warning flash so that if you're not asleep yet you can hit the button for an extra 10 minutes, a kinda "snooze" alarm. Well it's too much like one, and in my sleep the actual blinking from REM detection would wake me up, and in my drunken sleep I figured that it was the warning light and that I needed 10 more minutes. Or if nothing else, it just reminded me too much of a snooze alarm so I instinctively hit it. So basically, it woke me up completely when it would flash, and all I would do is cancel it. That's kinda a waste. And the configurations require looking up the instruction manuel so there was no reconfiguring the settings at 4 am. So tonight I'll take the beeping off completely, and the blinking down to maybe 4 or 5 seconds. I even changed the "threshold" which the directions don't explain well at all, its all in broken up english. It blinked a couple times in the night, then I took it off at one point cuz it kept waking me up. I put it on again in the morning (when LD tends to occur more) and it reports going off 8 times, or that it detected 8 eye movements I'm not sure. Anyway, I'll research more and keep you posted.

Thanks for the update. It's amazing how technical the setup can be on just a sleep mask. Most people dont consider that but like anything it takes fine tuning.
