      Weed and Dreaming

I used to smoke weed multiple times a day for a few years. I noticed that during this time I didn't dream. What's that about? During the last year and a half I got extremely depressed (mentioned this in Wellbutrin, Bupropion, etc, and Dreams topic). I stopped smoking overnight and went on antidepressants. Then I started dreaming. I mean, I wasn't depressed the entire time I smoked, I was just depressed during the end for other reasons. Anyways, what's your take on this?

Yah I just recently started toking occasionally before hitting the sack... I have no idea why weed nulls the ability to recall dreams. I'm sure that you will still dream but maybe the burnout clouds the area of the brain responsible for recalling faint dream memories... bleh

I think it has something to do with a combination of weed making you sleep too heavily (and therefore suppressing your REM) and the effect that weed has on short-term memory, in the first place.
But yeah, when I smoke, I don't dream for shit. I usually will take some b-6 to balance myself out, though, and if I get enough sleep, I will at least remember Some sort of dream.

Antidepressants are stimulants, which may explain why you started dreaming when you started taking them. Stimulants would make your brain more active, even while you sleep.

Not sure why smoking grass would make you not dream...it's been so long. Maybe when you "burn out" you just sleep so deeply that you cant recall any dreams.

But weed can be a stimulant too. I dunno usually when I smoke I have pretty vivid dreams but it's hard to remember them.

i don't know the reason behind it, but smoking consistently for a long period of time erased my ability to recall dreams almost completely. when i stopped altogether, it took two days at most for me to start remembering two or three dreams a night. unfortunately, it seems that like everything else, marijuana is only good in moderation.

I definitly noticed a difference in my dream recall while on the stuff. If i go a few days without i can start to remember 3 or 4 dreams easily. But on it if i wake myself up and do some brain activity after like 3 hours of sleep i can recall 2 or 3 dreams. Usually if i wake up at the right time i can remember it but if i am really tired i wont remember or i remember and i just get too lazy to write it down.

The worst mistake you can make is to think you're alive when you're really asleep in lifes waiting room.
