Thread: How To Build Dream Light Goggles

I found an interesting article on building a very cheap, timer based, LED and audio dream mask. It says to use small swim goggles but I imagine it could be done with a sleep mask just as easily.

Sounds good... do you sleep on your back? I generally sleep with the wide of my face on the pillow and on my stomach so that stuff seems hard for me to sleep with. By the way I think the timer-based is better... the laser thing would probably hurt your eyes .

I sleep close to fetal position. I dont think it matters really. I might try this but I might cut out the audio cues part. i think lights is the important part.

Oh why is that? Because both have the same basic concept - the external senses pick up on something and it incorporates into your dream. The light might be a big truck coming at you at night or someone turning on a light which blinds you. The sound could work the same way. It possibly could be easier if you pick a song and recognize it. Also, you could try downloading sound effects. For example, the sound of an airplane passing ahead. This could also work for a sound you generally don't hear around where you live. Though your mind might try to trick you (I like, never hear planes, but my mind might make the plane sound be wind which is likely). Good luck though

I guess it'd be easier to make without the sound. I can use my computer for sound anyways.

I just read it all in much closer detail and I'm definately going to do this. This looks so easy to do and its really clever in that it incorporates the WBTB with the snooze. You set the alarm...it goes off as normal, earlier than you need to wake...You put the goggles on...switch it to light and hit snooze....then when the alarm goes off again, it will flash the lights instead of making the sound. Only problem I can forsee is the wire going from my head to the alarm clock getting tangled...which really doesnt seem like much of a problem at all. But saying that, I imagine it cant be that hard at all to buy a small alarm clock, and remove the important components and put them into a larger mask. Of course I'm going to start with the instructions given on the site before I try and make any improvements. This is exactly the instructions Ive been looking for. I really dont think REM detectors are neccesary at all. WBTB works by timing it and trial and error so why shouldnt this? And for under $30!!! This should be a fun project as well.

**in my last post I clearly misunderstood how this device worked.The sound is not used to trigger lucid dreams..its just the alarm working like it normally does if you want to use the snooze for a morning lucid dream!

Ah cool Make sure you get a normal sleeping scheudule so you can pinpoint your REM times

Got everything I need! Two Bright Blinking LED's. One low current led, a switch and an audio cable. I also have comfy goggles(not swimming goggles) that in my opinion would be more comfortable than a normal sleeping mask. Ill keep you posted(the one or two people who may care

I need help from someone who may know more about electronics than I. The blinking LED's im using are not working right. Im not sure if its just that my alarm clock doesnt give enough power or what. When I set the alarm on buzzer(beeping noise) it blinks perfectly only very, very dim..so totally useless. When I set it to radio alarm I get a bright blink or two and it stops. I don't know whats going on! I may have to try with a different, and simpler alarm.

EDIT: I took it all apart. I'm going to get a smaller and more basic alarm clock and hope this works better. Im thinking maybe all the cuircuts maybe dissapated the power? I have no idea...not that my alarm clock is remotely complex, but Im thinking maybe a very basic one with no radio would be better.Anyways, all the parts are here and I did get my alarm/radio back to normal. I think Ill head to goodwill and pick up an alarm clock tomorrow.

I got two different alarm clocks and still no go. I have a feeling it may be the blinking LED's Im using. I dont think I got the right ones. They may not even be bright enough. I was thinking...another simpler way to make these. After I get two bright , red, blinking LED's...maybe I can make a mask that plugs into the wall...not into al alarm clock. then get an outlet timer. It'd be easy and versatile. Adding a timer for snooze would be a very simple operation.Anyways, I think I am going to make the goggles first then decide what Im going to do with them.
