      this is not good

last night i had a dream and my friend was wearing a shirt that said Novadreamer and it had a picture of a stormtrooper from starwars(i don't know why) and then below ithe storm trooper it said are you dreaming. I asked my friend if novadreamer worked well and he said it worked pretty good. Then i asked him what reality checks he did. he said he didn't know what a reality check was so i showed him the finger in palm test and the hold your nose and breath test. My finger didn't go through my palm and i could breaath when my nose was plugged. I don't think this is a good thing. If my reality checks don't work how am i supposed to obtain lucidity. Alos aren't you not supposed to be able to read in dreams.

Maybe try some different reality checks. Here are some different ideas.

You may still be able to read in your dreams - everyone is different, though, so some people may have more trouble than others.

i can't see any of those working because if i did the reality check it might just do the same thing as in real life(i.e. jumping and not floating, sticking hand in palm and it not going through) or i might just dismiss it and not even notice anything abnormal about the reality check ( i.e. i can't remember anything that happened tht day, but that doesn't seem odd. My dog is purple, but that doesn't strike me as unusual)

      j/k

It sounds as if in that dream you didnt have the slightest suspicion that you were dreaming and instead your dream self was convinced that you were awake. Thus when you tried to demonstrate a reality check you influenced the outcome by your reflexive conviction that the test would fail. In a way it worked perfectly because your mind manifested the outcome that it expected and desired.
So dont let that one instance discourage you.

Use a reality check as a reality check. If you ever find yourself doing a reality check in a dream, or in real life. Stop what you are doing, look around, and ask yourself about the feasibility of the situation, why are you here? what are you doing? then tell yourself that right now, you are in a dream, convincingly. Imagine what you can do in this dream, what you want to do right now, and all the boundless possibilities that are open to you while dreaming.

Do this when you are awake (or are you???) and hopefully it will translate into your dream. Your reality checks should be checking your state of mind, not just the logic of a simple task (although with many people these things are linked, although aparently not you)

I think you have to be somewhat suspicious that you"re dreaming in order for the reality check to work. Like when you notice somethings wrong so then you do it to see if you are dreaming. When you think about it can you ever remember having a dream in the past where your finger went through your palm when you touched your hands or floating a little when you jumped or seeing swimming letters when you werent trying to RC? You probably have to be aware that all those things could happen if you were dreaming.

I've had multiple RCs fail during false awakening.

The suggestion to me after posting that very alarming incident here was to avoid doing RCs as simple routines. Make sure I am thinking through all that goes with them:

      Am I dreaming?
      How did I get here?

      etc.

Since I've been more careful about thinking through my RCs, none have failed.

In context, you were not really DOING RCs... you were really just demonstrating them for somebody else and thinking about them in that manner.
