For me if it's a meal before a nap, it's a no no because I wil surely get headaches. In the night with a full stomach, it will be more difficult to fall asleep but does help in dream recall because U are less likely to fall into deep sleep with a full stomach.

I try not to eat too much, especially dairy. I'm a bit lactos intolerant so anything that can make my stomach churn is bad.

I find the opposite to IMJ . A heavy meal before bed gives me a deeper sleep with much less recall .Going to bed with an empty stomach means I have a distrubed night and lots of broken dreams consequently better recall and more lucids.

I have found that eating a big meal later in the evening than usual disturbs my sleep and helps with dream recall. Especially pizza. This morning I heard on NPR about a study that showed that the old thing about cheese causing vivid dreams really does work.

I agree that food promotes a deeper sleep at least for me, as eating a lot leaves me low-energy, but maybe it's differen't for others.

P.S. Which old wives tale is that?, there's so many old wives tales I can never remember which is which, though most of them are crap if you ask me.

I've seen it on TV, like Bugs Bunny cartoons, and I think an episode of Gomer Pyle, both where they ate cheese or rarebit and started sleep-walking and reversed their roles. The Welsh rarebit thing, supposed to cause wild dreams. If I ever see that at a restaurant, I'm going to order it.

Weird.. i find more luck with a light meal or no meal before sleep. Not nap, sleep for the night. Generally, adding a little discomfort to disrupt my sleep later in the night has worked on inducing dreams, usually by putting a fan at high and pointing it at me, then crashin like that.

Last time i went lucid (this week) was weird, i fell asleep on the couch early sunday morning with sunglasses on, ipod playing something weird like Groove Armada, and canalphones in. I did so on an empty stomach with nothing but water in the morning, and it was increadibly lucid, reminiscant of when I used to dream of fields and flying when I was little.
      Just keep moving…
