Has anyone else noticed an increase in LD after playing a Video Game?

I noticed I LD more often after playing a video game (XBOX). Though only 2 LDs were actually game derived (Doom and Farcry).

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I get a lot of LD's off of games. And a lot of general game-oriented dreams. Once I had a cool one where I was playing Final Fantasy Tactics (the Gameboy version) in the dream, but at the same time I was in the game. I was seeing the whole battle first person and third person simultaneously...The feeling is impossible to describe accurately, but needless to say it was awesome.

And Mechwarrior dreams are by far my favorite. I get a lot of them, and they're totally awesome...

My Doom dream had a bit of Mechwarrior mixed in with it. The Zombies had Mech legs. Your post triggered this recall. Neet.

I imagine that playing a game that is very mentally stimulating (such as a first person shooter with so many things going on) before going to bed will help with inducing an LD as the mind is still focused, but the body is relaxed. I would think it would help with a WILD exponentially, as does juggling (I do it every night before sleep).

I have noticed some effect...

My usual RPDs are all based on Final Fantasy, mostly XI, and they are a lot clearer after playing such games.

Ever play/work on something so long that when you close your eyes, you can see the image? I get that a lot (for example, back when I played Hexic until I could see it everytime I tried to go to bed) so I'll experiment with this further, as I see others have some results as well. I didn't earlier because I didn't know anyone else had the same thing.

Yeah that has happened to me Gawain. I remember, after I read around 30 books of the Dragon Ball Z serie, in like, 10 hours, everytime I closed my eyes, I would see a character from the books. Very weird :s

Hmm that may just be because these games may inspire your imagination and return in your dreams . And in turn you might recognise them as dreamsigns .
Also most games force your Brains to use it's Analythical area and tune in to a concentrated, focussed and rather Lucid Mindset , which would be a very desirable state of Mind to take with you while falling asleep if you want to gain lucidity.

Could you be more specific on HOW you became lucid after gaming? Like did you encounter and recognise a dreamsign relating to the VideoGame from waking life? Did you just spontaniously became Lucid? Or spontaniously remembered to do an RC?
Tell me the details and the exact conditions of that night that MAY have led to gaining/increasing lucidity and maybe we could figure out a way to replicate these conditions. Perhaps an Interresting way of creating a dreamincubation technique.

I don't play video games very often, but there was a period a few years ago when I had had several dreams where I was in the game Deus EX. It was still animated graphics or whatever, but I was actually in it. I didn't become lucid. I also had dreams where the dream consisted only of a 2-D image of Tetris or Minesweeper, not me playing the game, just the game going on as if that was all there is in the universe.

My first two significant LDs occured right after I had become obsessed with "Fable" and was playing it hours on end. Neither had anything to do with the game, though.

Had a dream like Call of Duty 2 once... Only I was german!
Strange, seeing as how I didn't play games much that day, and when I did I played Oblivion. Oh well, it was awesome anyway.

I usually spontaneously become lucid. I don't use any technique per se.

But when I play a game, I usually dream I am playing it with very little lucidity (I become aware from the fact that what I see is a repeat from of what I did in the wake state and wake up). This is usually followed by more lucid dreams unrelated to the game (I can hover around and fly is all). The thing I have noticed is when I actually complete a game, the lucid dreams are more relaxed and more controllable (probably due to the fact that I am no longer tensed up after finishing the game).

I finally finished Half Life 2 today... Yeah, I put it off until now.

Same here. I think this is something worth investigating.

Awesome. I am playing An FPS called Far Cry. That is an awesome game, which I hear helps LD's. The mutants might induce nightmares though (especially those ones with the rocket launchers for hands)

This is just me, but, I find that playing computer games deadens dream recall. I find my recall is the best when I spend the most time during the day away from home, and at university or somewhere else. But, that could be just me.

Yeah, I find that my recall lags a bit when I obsess over a game too much, too. Though I only really notice losing recall if I'm totally absorbed in a game, playing it most of the day. If I play less than an hour, the net effect on my dreams tends to be positive.

yeah I have the exact same condition of gaining Lucidity. In a dream it either suddenly dawns on me that I'm dreaming OR I spontaniously question the Reality I am currently in ATM. This is rather frustrating since I don't have any technique that seems to work for me. It just comes spontaniously...allthough the last one of these 2 conditions may be due to me doing RCs in Waking life alot....However I have only had 2 LDs (one the night before last night, lowlow lucidity though) where the lucidity was gained by a sudden analytical state of mind where I am asking myself wether I'm dreaming. My dream Recall is really progressing and getting better again so soon I'll have good enough of a Dream Recall to start seriously working on some LD-induction techniques.

I don't sweat it with techniques and stuff. I get enough spontaneous LD with the capability to hover and fly to keep me happy. I only had few Truely Lucids where I feel more alive than IRL. I usually freeze up and can't move in those so I don't really care for that state of beeing. My hover and flying LDs are not always Extreamly Lucid. Just lucid enough to be enjoyed. I figure the rest will come when I am ready.

Typically VGs tend to put a stopper on my recall and vividity as well. Off the top of my head, I know that FFT, Diablo II, and WoW have all at various times pretty much killed my ability to remember anything from the previous night but addled game-inspired half-dreams that are repetitive, uninteresting, and dull; this can happen for weeks after playing them for a significant time as well. Ultimately if I want to "stimulate my imagination" to get good dreams I'll just read a book or watch a movie, which doesn't run the risk of ingraining repetitive gameplay functions into my head which can muddy up my dreams.

The repetitive behaviour of the dream about a level of a game I have completed sparks me into realising I am dreaming (I already completed this level... Wait, I'm dreaming) and I wake up.

Subsequent dreams are not game related and fairly lucid though. Games don't seem to affect my recall as much. Though I don't really force myself to recall my dreams too often so you might be right.

I had a very disorienting game/dream experience. I dreamed I was Gordon Freeman from the first Half-life. As I was playing/walking through the levels, I really felt my feet were on solid ground but when I woke up I just had no idea which way was up when the solid ground disappeared!

I also had a dream where the Master Chief from Halo was being attacked by the men in black on the way to the Flood facility!

Just this morning I had a lucid dream (I woke up, then fell asleep into the dream), in which.. I was, a spaceship-thing ;o, I saw it from a top-view. Then I blew some enemy ships out of existence and woke up.

Which was really frustrating because I couldn't really feel my real dream body. I'm guessing it had something to do with the strategy game Total Annihilation and/or :Spring.

I had one non-LD about twilight princess last night, not playing the game but directly involved, the best kind of video game dream. I didn't write it down, so I already forgot all the details (d'oh). I've been trying to induce one related to TP for a while, this one came after not thinking about it for over a week, normally I would think of it each night since it's one of my LD goals. Video game dreams are generally rare though.

When I got a new game for the summer, I actually had several dreams related to it surprisingly. Each one I was playing an original game, some had ideas I would actually like to see in a real game. One even had a firing pattern very similar to what's in the game before I actually saw it (it's a shmup, RS).

I haven't noticed any effect on recall or vividness, other than the fact video game related dreams are almost always awesome, unless it's a puzzle game causing a severe case of insomnia, though that's not really dreaming.
