      Thumbs down

Passive lucidity: (the "opposite" of the below definition) what happens when lucid dream techniques - especially the RCs - become an unconscious habit. You might, for example, have done so many RCs for the day - or have been doing RCs for a few months or years - what you don't want to happen is that you automatically say 'oh, i'm definately awake..' ---- to prevent this, i strongly recomend the below because usually after months/years of lucid dream techniques - it's really easy to hit a plateau or even go down slowly in the lucidity of your dreams because we (LDers) basically turn this into an unconscious habit - just like the habit of whatever it was that made us NOT have lucid dreams - so it defeates its own purpose IF YOU READ BELOW IT WILL MAKE A LOT MORE SENSE>>>>

      Being AWARE OF YOUR AWARENESS:
(the "opposite" of the above definition) What you do to make your lucidity continue to go up (if you do it correctly and if even this DOES NOT BECOME A HABIT ALSO - this last point is very important&#33. What basically happens is what is said above: it become a habit (unconsioully - like most of the other things you do that started out where you had to think about it - think back to when you were taught to eat/speak/bathe/read/etc....what evenutally happened with these was you did them automatically - in the begining you had to think about it -- the same thing happens to so many who learn LD techniques and it is a downfall and it is ironic/ defeats it's own purpose..keep reading...).
an example, very good example, was one time i literally looked in the mirror and saw my self looking at my self - not the physical self, but it was as though i saw myself for the first time and that i saw the charater i played in life 'collapse' --- your reality basically does collapse, in a sense, when you do practice lucid dreaming.
OBSERVE YOURSELF is another way for me to explain this. if u meditate you know exactly what i am talking about - it's as though you see through your ego and become super aware, but during the day you get lost in keeping up your appearance(reputation, etc) - but it's a state that really CANNOT be explained in words but i have tried my best above, if it's still confusing, tell me and i'll try to explain, but have it be more of a specific question.......

(this is copied and pasted from a responce to my own story...)
"What if I were to tell u that you can take control...of all of this? Look at all these people. Seems as though they're just all chatting away? Nothing to do with u. And yet., maybe they're only here because u wanted them to. U are their god. U can make them obey u or even destroy u."

Your definition of 'passive lucidity' seems to suggest that it isn't lucidity at all. I would describe passive lucidity as when you simply become lucid in dreams for no apparent reason (i.e. you just realise it, without a reality check or whatever), but probably because you do a lot of reality checks and invest time in lucid dreaming.

That said, you're right about not letting reality checks become a habit, and always taking the effort to really observe.

I see what you mean. Indeed if RCing becomes a subconcious habit, like Breathing, it wouldn't make a difference anymore. You could end up doing RCs in dreams and not even noticing that the outcome of the check means you are Dreaming. And thus many Lucid Dreamers RC instinctively and not Conciously: as it is intended.

The whole idea behind RCs is becoming concious and aware so you can look at your Reality in an Objective, CONCIOUS way.

Perhaps it would help heaps if you First do some deep Meditation and Right after that, when you're still in the highly Concious Meditative state of Mind, proceed to do RCs.

RCs should be done very conciously indeed. It's not supposed to become an Unconcious habit, but a Concious habit ''implanted'' into your Subconcious, Dreaming Mind instead.

      Great Point.
