Okay well, I just had my first lucid dream that I remember after starting practicing reality checks and whatnot.

I had tried Mr. LaBerge's method of reading text, looking away, and then checking to see if the text was the same.

I don't remember my dream progress with that, but the method I used to attain lucidity last night was that I noticed that very weird things were happening (people were morphing from pink elephants to octopuses and whatnot) so I declared it a dream.

Now, I had not practiced that method of reality check, so how is it I can get my mind to do what happened in the dream more often? That is, realize that when impossible things happen, realize it's a dream.

      Any help?

I think it was a random event.. It happened because you now understand your dreams and know that things like that are not possible, however i dont think there is a magic way to 'pay attention' in all your dreams. That's why the techniques often focus on one thing, a common dream sign like a faulty light switch, a dog with 2 heads..etc

The best i can suggest are some affirmations before bed, on my wall i have a list of statements that i repeat. You could have one saying, "I will notice i am dreaming when i see morphing creatures" or one I have is, "I will be aware of my surroundings and notice anything that is impossible in real life" Repeat those over and over each night, and science tells us it should stick.. Good luck.
