I have been able to become lucid a few times.

However, often everything seems slow and sluggish almost like I am underwater. I am sometimes unable to see clearly or even look up. When I am able to do these things I am often stuck inside a small room trying to get out.

Contrary to other people's lucids I don't feel strong emotions, see vivid colours etc.. Like many people starting out, I want to have the "flying" experience and feel free, full of joy and excitement.

I know about some techniques like rubbing hands, spinning, shouting etc.. I am not really asking for that kind of advice.

What I want to know is, can anyone relate to my problem and were you able to overcome it. If so, how?

      Any other suggestions are welcome.

      Thanks

      JASE.

Close your eyes when your in the room and imagine a stream, now, what is around the stream? Grass? Trees? Maybe some animals are there, picture that in your mind. Then will yourself there, say in your head, while still imagining the scene, "I will be there when i open my eyes."

Continue this or something similar until it happens.

      ETA:
I do this when i want to change scene in my dreams, or just to create a scenario.

Actually the Attaining Lucidity Board is meant for Topics on how to get IN a Lucid dream, not out That's what the Topic's title is suggesting. I've become trapped in a lucid Dream but it was more that I kept having 1 false awakening after another and thought I'd never wake up

I actually had a Lucid Dream last night which was very colorfull and clear. Other Lucids I've had were either Clear and very managable or very Blury and hard to control. It seems to change from time to time for me.

Well, it seems like the LDs you had must have occured in deeper sleep, opposed to REM sleep. Think of your brain like a device being powered. Once part of the power falls away, certain functions will too. Now, in REM sleep your brain is most active thus causing it too be more vivid, colorful and bright. Also the easiest to remain in and remain stable. In deeper stages of sleep, the brain disables functions. The first one is color, so thats when you have black and white dreams. The deeper you go, the harder it will be you to remain stable and lucid. Things might get sluggish and you might feel weak, tired or like your being pulled away or to the ground.

Finding stability in deeper stages is a lot harder, this is also why its very hard to LD right in the beginning of the night and 6 hours of sleep is recommended. Not saying you will LD in REM by default then, but mostpeople cant or will forget LDs in deep sleep. Not saying its not possible, some people can LD in deep(er) sleep

Try WILD. WILD will usually only work out well with 6 hours of sleep or more and it'll be REM-sleep for sure. WILD without sleep and in deep sleep stages, is hard. Also, Wilds are generally more stable in my experience, as you are aware from the start and there is no initial 'shock' or strange situations you might be.

Whoa.. this happened to me SO MANY TIMES in childhood.... they were my recurrent nightmares. i hated them. they SUCK !! I also had the sensation that i couldn't breath.
I like Lucius' explanation, and sounds really verosimile.
My advice is to remain calm, put your thoughts into order, even if it's hard (wake that brain up &#33 and try to want as much as you can to wake up. eventually you should wake up.

I think some people misunderstood my problem. I have some very interesting dreams in all kinds of situations and enviroments.

Just that whenever I become lucid, I seem to be stuck or just generally struggling to "get out". Perhaps I want to get out becuase I expect to be free in lucid dreams and experience vivid colour and emotion. I think it's pshycological, like I don't want to disappoint myself if it doesn't meet my expectations.

Lucius I think your suggestions will be very helpful. I am slowing gaining momentum with my quest to get more and better lucidity and this will help.

Funny you should say this. It reminds me of a "lucid" where I encountered a balcony from inside a tall building. I wanted to jump so I could do the whole flying thing only at the time, it seemed so realistic that I was worried I would fall to my death. Think this uncertaintly led to me losing lucidity.

      Thanks for help people

Something else that might help :

Try visualisation excersises. If youre afraid its because of your expections that is.

Visualise a tranquil and beautiful, vivid setting, possibly use a picture or painting.. and practice visualising it from time to time. Like meditation. Then, when doing WILD, gentlly stay focused on your peaceful vision, ultimately you should be able to actually visit this landscape

This is actually interesting for artists and writers who wish to visit their own creations
