      RCs not effective

I have been doing reality checks for over 4 months now. I have tried to get them in my subconscious mind and also do it on certain occasions. I get the impression they are completely useless. The few times I got lucid was not of some reality check but simply through coincidence. Not in a single dream I made a RC out ouf habit.
You lucid dream masters, I'd like to ask if RCs are a waste of time, because they are annoying if you do them 20 times a day or so. And they produce no result, techniques like WILD or MILD seem to be much better. I also can't image it to be right to outwit oneself in order to get lucid. Doesn't it have to be more natural, more controlled like WILD? I think RCs are only a tool if you want to make sure you are dreaming, but they don't help in becoming lucid.
You just can't tell me you are lucid regularly (several times a week) just through these stupid reality checks.

I do not practice RC myself but know a lot of the people here have great results using them. My issue with them is that: a) I am lazy b)They are not completely reliable and do not offer immediate results

I suggest, in case they aren't working out for you, you also aid yourself with another method but continue to practice them. Sometimes they do come in handy...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

There are 2 types of RC:

      1) RC which are supposed to become your habit. Like every 30 min your mind sends you a signal to test reality. Basically signal to test reality originates from within yourself .
I think it may be very effective, but insanely hard and annoying thing to learn.

      2) Second type is great : you have to remember to perform a RC if something seems weird/wacky or you just want to perform a RC. This method is *very* effective, especially If you use digital clocks.
I use this method, and about a third of all my dreams were induced or reinforced by this techinique.

Another important thing to remember is = you *MUST* dull or supress your rationalizing ability while performing RC. If you read a digital clock and it says 88.27, most likely you *ARE * dreaming.

Never assume the battery or clock is broken. If you are yet not satisfied, try more RC...

I agree with Ev on surpressing rationalization. Doing a thorough RC in real life as opposed to a dream will not be the same. We won't be able to think the same way, so expect thinking to be hard in dreams! So yah, RC's need to be instant, easy, and habitual. Don't think too much.

Btw, RC's in themselves will not work. Motivation for the dreams is important too.

yeah...some people cannot attain lucidity through RC's...

RC's do NOT work for me. I don't really use a technique though, i just let it happen...
...and it doesn't 'happen' as much as i would like, but anyway-RC's don't work AT ALL for me.

      INDIVIDUAL differences...

I think the trick of going lucid through RCs is to do them a LOT. And I mean atleast once an hour, more if you remeber. And then you might not get results for like a week or two or longer. I am pretty sure if you did it like every 30 minutes, for a month stright you will have more lucid dreams than any of us.

Of course I could never go for more than 2 or 3 days, its just not my thing to keep checking.

ok thanx for all your answers, i'll try this what alric suggested. i will exaggerate it with RCs, 30 a day at least. yeah, i'm gonna count them. this way my subconscious mind just can't ignore it.

well. some techniques may not work for some people, but for some they do...you just have to find the ones that work for you.

some things work for some, and not for others, the way I have managed to have a couple of lucid dreams is by simply thinking about them, reality checking, telling myself I am going to have a good dream, and telling myself I WILL become lucid, all of these combined things have worked well. its just a case of mixing things up and trying to see what works for you.

Well i tried reality checks for the first 2 months here, but ive not done them since...........

As Ev was saying i think training your mind to recognise unusual happenings is great. I do this sometimes but if n00bs are reading then id suggest you begin to question reality, let go slowly on some of the concrete rules you have lived with. I still believe what i see but with time skills can be achieved.
lol i mean last night,i believed so truly that i could have an obe that night that it would happen....well it didnt....but the experience i gained was being out of my body...but not disconnected from it..all i could do was see out of my SHUT eyes, a beyond reality vision to say and feel my arms move around while physically staying still

      n00bs i love you
