      dreams too weird to record

      Hi there.

I have dreams that are often too weird to easily record in just a few words. They usually take place in unusual or otherworldly environments. A recent dream I had involved jumping over tiny concrete islands with fake trees, a team of various unrelated superheroes, a man with a briefcase running from a helicopter down a country road, and a special forces team with a bald women who gets shot, just to name a few.

So here's my problem. How in the world do I record stuff like this without writing a small book? I suppose I could write it like I did in this post, but would that be sufficient?

      Thanks.

I've actually had dreams that don't make any sense at all when I woke up, like once there was a grotto filled with multicolored berries, and the dark berries were fighting the light berries, until one berry won and ate all of the others, becoming a giant godzilla-like creature.

The rest of that dream is just a mess of nonsense that I can't form coherent sentences out of. I recommend that if you really want to record your dreams, just write down whatever describes what happened, even if it makes no sense. Feelings and random images are game as well, don't expect a full, coherent narrative out of every dream.

Chawp, as thegnome54 stated, no one says that you have to write a "book" about the dreams you had in your journal. For me, if I'm too tired (or lazy), simply writing down the main topic/subject, and a word or two or a feeling is enough for me to recall a dream.

Some people just write snippets of their dreams.. others write paragraphs, some put images, or feelings, others draw pictures.. whatever helps to bring a dream back to you when you read over it the next morning is appropriate.

Please just know that there is no right way (or one way) to journal about your dreams.

It is sufficient as long as U remember the dream when U read it. The DJ IMO serves as a trigger or signposts to remind U what U saw in the dream not a recreation of the dream cause only Ur mind can do that... What I do is in point form and chronological order meaning whichever U saw first even if they don't link as a story.

Yes, the journal is for yourself and to help you improve recall and recognize dreamsigns. It doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense; as long as you can get enough down to remind yourself of the dream, then you will probably remember it. I can remember dreams I had a long time ago now, like the whole scenario and feelings, just by the short journal entries.

It is harder to remember the really weird ones, I know. Sometimes I just give up and only record the semi-coherent ones.

if i had this sort of problem, and couldnt record them in a few words, i'd probably draw them, like in a comic strip.

I have had dreams like that too. Far too abstract to describe acurately in words. Perhaps illustrations, emotions and descxriptions would do a better job.

I have had one specific dream like that which's main emotion/theme was Panic and a mess that was beyond cleaning up/making right again. I saw Iron segmented hoses and leather belts in a bathtub that was slowly pooring full of water and I somehow felt very big and empty( Physically as well as mentally ) and at the same time very small and helpless. How on earth would you desribe it?

I don't know maybe I should draw it or re-construct it in the bathtub and take pictures. Put the pictures in a book and write descriptions of their relation to the dream under them. Maybe that would help?

If you'll look in my dream journal you'll notice that some of my dreams take up a page or two of text. Write down as much as possible in detail, or better yet, draw your dreams. I find that drawings help to keep something better than words, especially if it's really surreal like what you described.

I dont want to steal his post or anything but, what would one do if to add to what he already described, you cant even remember what caused what. Like there are 3 parts to a dream and you cant remember what lead to what or in what order?

Just do it the best that you can. A lot of times, if you record the dream right away, as you start writing more things will come back to you. Also, try asking yourself: What happend right before that? and sometimes you can work backwards that way.
