Thread: Sleep Paralysis...how long?

Ever since I've started trying to LD i've always been under the impression that the effects of SP last for a while (15-30 minutes). To put it another way, whenever someone talks about waiting for SP to set in and then finally getting the HI visuals, vibrations, etc. I've always been under the impression that all of the above mentioned "effects" last for a while. However, upon reading a thread the other day I saw that these sensations only actually last for maybe a minute or two tops.

I've yet to experience SP while conscious so my question is: if I'm doing say a WILD, if I were to experience SP, how long does it normally last, from the point of onset to the point I enter my dream?

I have a question first, do you know its SP, or just your legs feel tingly?

I'd say it would be 2 tops. Cause if your in SP then your body thinks your sleeping so you will either have to fall alsleep or enter your dream (Or fail and be awake)

Hmmm, the only times I've figured I've come close to SP involve just as you described, the tingly legs. But your answer sounds about right, if my body were to truly be in SP then I'd either fall asleep or enter a dream. So that answers that then! Now I just need to get to that point of reaching SP!

EDIT: Though I'm still curious to know how long most people experience the SP sensations before entering a dream. Any input on that end would be much appreciated and helpful.

By reading what you said im guessing you take a while to fall asleep.

If thats the case it could be a while.

I'm interested in a person whos know the real awsner though.

I usually try to get to SP and eventually LD prior to sleeping so sometimes it takes a little bit, but when I'm just going to bed i'm out in about 15 minutes.

I too would like to hear a decent answer though. Anyone?

I've DEFINITELY felt this before, but only for a moment or two since I usually get too excited about it and snap out of it.

Wow - so last night, as usual I attempted a WILD before sleep but geez...

So about 20 minutes in I felt my limbs all go numb, it was at this point that I knew I was in the right direction. Next thing I know I get this weird heat/vibration feeling throughout my upper body. My arms and face felt as though they were sweating profusely. This is where my breathing became very short and rapid, and of course my heart was pounding. As I've read here, I tried not to focus on it too hard and just ride it out but I "snapped out of it" due to my rapid breathing.

I've read many accounts of people having the breathing problem. To all of you experienced WILD'ers, is this normal? Will it stop happening once I get used to the change? I'm assuming I'm within moments of entering a dream at this point, since everything was getting funky.

I should also note that this was my first time experiencing said effects. Any advice or suggestions on how to handle the breathing/racing heart issue would be excellent.

I want it more than a lucid dream. It sounds more real to me.

Sadly it is, as far as I can tell [and assuming noone has any decent methods to tell me?!] harder than attaining lucidity!
