Am I on the right track? (WILD) - Coming from a pretty exciting attempt

      Hi all,

I know that there's a lot of questions/threads about WILD, and I've tried to look in many of them, but with this kind of subjet(dreaming) I feel like my question can be answered a lot better by sharing my own personal experience So here it is.

I've been training WILD for some weeks now(been into LD for only about 4 weeks. I've had 3 LD's). So far I've actually been quite happy with my progress, but I have yet to do a succesull WILD But I'm not in a hurry, I'll take my time.

Anyway, so just some minutes ago I got up from another WILD attempt, and I'm actually pretty excited about what happened. And I hope someone would be able to answer if it's on the right track to a succesfull WILD.

Anyway, so I lay down in my bed, and start to relax. All is good and I lay there just counting(I've found that it's easier for me to just count than repeating a sentence). From my other WILD attempts I figured the reason I didn't get to far(only a light SP) was that I'm concentration too much on the feelings my body has. So today I thought to myself that I would just try to focus only on the numbers, and the numbers only. And not every single detail and change in the feeling of my body So anyway, as I started to do this I suddenly began to slip in and out of very, very random thoughts that just came out of nowhere. Now during those thoughts I didn't count, and wasn't really lucid, I was just flowing with the thoughts. Almost like a dream, just without pictures if you know what I mean, it's just black, only your thoughts. They would last very short, and I slipped out to my own thoughts again thinking to myself "where the hell did those thoughts come from" So I continued doing this, although increasing my concentration on the numbers I counted so I wouldn't slip into a dream without knowing. Then, all of the sudden I felt my right arm starting to "sink" and then it felt complety numb. And this is where the cool stuff(for me anyway) happened. When my arm go numb, it seriously felt like it was swingning slowly from the left to the right, left, right, left, right. And this must've been a start on an SP. Although the rest of my body weren't quite there yet, only my right arm. It felt like my arm were in the dream world while the rest of the body and myself where waiting to slowly fall in! It was pretty exciting. I'm also pretty sure that I saw one single black and white picture fly through the black thing when you've closed your eyes.

After this nothing more really happened, and I decided that would be it for today. And I was pretty happy with it.

I would just like to know whenever this was the start of the right SP, and whenever I'm on the right track to do a proper WILD, so I don't waste my time training in a wrong way.

In my next attempt I will try to relax even more as the SP kicks in.

Thank you all for the time,

      cheers.

Yes you were in a hypnagogic trance. That is very much on the right track, congratulations

You were indeed experiencing sleep paralysis in your right arm. That used to happen to me all the time- I'd get it in only my arms, or only my right hand and left leg...I'd have random parts of me in sleep paralysis and other parts not in it. But the thing about WILD is, there's no set way for it to happen.

It's different for everyone, and it's different on different times too. I for example rarely get SP when I WILD. I however almost always get hypnagogic imagery or "impressions". You were in a hypnagogic trance, that's why random little thoughts kept popping up. I know exactly what you mean Be careful though, because if you get lost in your thoughts, you will slip into non lucid sleep.

I have gotten to the point where when these little thoughts pop up, my subconscious reminds me not to forget that I'm trying to WILD. You want your consciousness to slow down, and shift, but not stop functioning at your will.

You are indeed on the right track. Keep it up, and you'll have a WILD in no time. The biggest thing is don't think too hard. Good luck! I hope this helps you.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing that! hehe.

Yeah, this was exactly why I increased my councioness a bit, to make sure that wouldn't happen Because in the short amount of time the thoughts came and you just followed them, it felt completely like a non-lucid dream. So I knew this was something I should be aware of.

I have gotten to the point where when these little thoughts pop up, my subconscious reminds me not to forget that I'm trying to WILD. You want your consciousness to slow down, and shift, but not stop functioning at your will.
hehe, would be nice if my subconscious would remind me of that too hehe. But I know exactly what you mean by that

That was a very nice post, and it has indeed helped me! It was also nice to know that my random thoughts actually were a specific thing. It will help me understand it better.

Thank you very much for the help.

Not a problem at all, mate glad I was able to help I forgot to mention that in hypnagogic trance you may or may not see things, it doesn't really matter. It was wise of you to increase your awareness, because if you follow those thoughts, you slip into non-lucid sleep, like I said before. But do you understand the process? You essentially do the same thing you do when you go to sleep, only you try to stay on a perfect state of inbetween asleep and awake. You want your body to sleep, but your mind to stay awake, but feel a "shift" in consciousness. You'll see what I mean soon enough. After your first WILD you'll understand a LOT more about how it works and it gets a lot easier.

I think I understand the process perfectly I have had LD's before, and in my DEILD I went through a quick SP(I've actually tried that twice). Where I would hear this very loud noise, then feel my body being dragged off my bed like a ragdoll, then to feeling like being trown into the dream scene.

I understand what you mean with making a shift in consciousness It's a very weird feeling you get when your consciousness slips from the real world into the dream world, but as I said, I'm pretty sure I understand what you mean by that

As you said, it's all about finding the perfect balance between being aware and let yourself drag into a sleeping state. And that is exactly the balance I'm experimenting right now

Well there you go then sounds like you're gonna be pretty good at this. Better than me anyway. I'm pretty bad at WILD unless I use VILD

Good. And also try not to think about the process of the WILD at all. Thoughts like, "Oh wow...ok this must be the transitional phase! I'm getting close!

Avoid that. Come to think of it really, you're probably best off not thinking much at all

Yep. That's the mistake I made, and then I wondered why I never had a WILD. Like I said, once you have one, it gets a LOT easier, because you'll know what the process is like.
