Okay first thing is you need to work on your dream recall! Since the majority of your dreams happen during REM sleep, and your longest REM sleep is about 4-6 hours into sleep, depending on the person, perhaps try setting an alarm for 5 hours into sleep, wake up and try remember dreams, if you don't remember any, don't worry. Go back to sleep. This way when you re-enter REM sleep it will be much lighter than before and enhance your chances or remembering when you naturally wake up

You HAVE the dream to take control you, you just don't remember it. You should start keeping a dream journal and to help you remember dreams remind yourself to remember them when you are going to sleep. Just keep thinking about remembering your dreams until you pass out. Try to wake up naturally and ask yourself "What did I dream last night?" Then if you recall parts of a dream try and build off of it.
