      tips for remaining conscious?

i've been doing adam's technique the last few nights (wake up but don't move or open your eyes). well, very close to it anyway, since i have to move my arm to stop my vibrating alarm.

well, i find that afterward, i'm sitting in bed, thinking about LDing and what not. well, i have a hard time staying conscious long enough to actually make anything of it. I mean, i'm waking up early so i'm really tired, and without opening my eyes, that only makes it even harder to stay awake while attempting this technique. does anyone have any suggestions?

on a similar topic, i was laying in bed the other night falling asleep. every once in a while my breathing would suddenly slow down drastically on it's own, like it does while you're sleeping. is that a part of the WILD process? my friend, who is not even into this stuff, has lately been experiencing the early stages of WILD's, such as the tingle through your body, limbs going numb, slowed breathing, etc etc, but for both of us, when we notice our breathing change, we just think "whoa, i didn't even just do that" and we just focus on it too much and it brings us out of it. any advice on that either?

      Hey there,

I have the same problem with staying conscious. I just fall asleep far too easily

About the sensations you're experiencing. They're part of what happens when the body goes to sleep. This is something we're not normally paying attention to (or even still awake for) when it happens, so right now it feels strange, but it's actually something that happens to you every time you go to sleep.

PS: There's no such thing as a "WILD process". A wild is a wake induced lucid dream, nothing more. It doesn't have a process, it doesn't have stages. There may be techniques on how to achieve a WILD that have a certain stages, and your body going to sleep goes through a process, but that's a different thing

      Hope that helps!

I think this is the key issue in attempting to achieve a WILD. If you simply manage to stay conscious, well, then you are awake, and that isn't going to do you any good. The problem is that you have to actually fall asleep, but still maintain a minimal degree of awareness of what is happening, namely that you are falling asleep and entering a dream state.

Some people seem to have a knack for this, and there are a lot of techniques that work for a number of people. I, on the other hand, have yet to master this, despite trying out a number of different methods. I either wind up awake for a prolonged period, or I am asleep having a non-lucid dream. The trick is to find that sweet spot that is right in between being awake and asleep.

I've achieved this a few times, but I can't reliably replicate it. My last successful attempt was a product of sheer determintation. I lay on my back for about an hour and a half and I refused to turn over into a more comforatble position without results. Eventually I felt like my body was starting to rock, and I began to imagine that my body was on a swing tied to the ceiling of my room. As my dream body swung back and forth more and more vigorously, a dream began to form, and I wound up actually dreaming that I was on a swing. I was lucid, and I then just flew away.

      that sounds awesome!!

well as i find it far too difficult to stay awake when i barely move and don't open my eyes, i'll just get up and get on a computer for a few minutes i guess.

      thanks for the help

I have trouble staying concious during WILD but I'm not freaked out by the feelings of SP anymore. I, however, don't usualy get odd sounds and stuff. Just take it in like "cool... SP" instead of "Ahhh!... SP!" and you'll get used to it eventualy.
