My first LD (Since using MILD & joining this community)

ZOMFG!!! Last night I had my first LD since joining this community!!! I was using MILD!!! It was completely amaizing! I still cant belive the vividness of the dream, It was like i was not dreaming!!! I did a Reallity Check (the one with the digital clock) and it worked! I'm soooo happy! Hope to have more in future!

I also just got my first LD two nights ago (YAY!) Unfortunately I got too excited and woke up after a few seconds after I became lucid so i dont think it really counts. I hope yours went better than mine did

Feintingfox, congratulations on your first lucid dream!

I say "congratulations" because any lucid dream (no matter how short) COUNTS and is something to celebrate!

Now that you know it's possible.. the next time you realize you're lucid.. calm yourself by taking deep slow breaths and ground yourself within the dream.

By "ground" I mean make the dream as lucid as it can be. One of the tricks I use to "ground" myself is to "touch" things. By touching.. I mean really "feeling" them. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc.. Grounding not only helps me remain in the dream longer but also helps increase the vividness of the dream.

I never thought of it that way, but I now realize that I have actually had countless lucid dreams in my life; they were only very brief. In fact, when I was younger I would get out of nightmares by becoming lucid. If I was chased by a monster, I would eventually think "oh, this is just a dream, thank goodness!". And then I would think "I wanna wake up NOW!" Is this unusual? I guess I've always assumed that this was how everyone else got out of their nightmares.

These days I don't have any nightmares. On the other hand I often have problems staying in the dream once I become lucid. I wonder if this could be a conditioned response created by that nightmare trick, i.e., get lucid and wake up immediately.

Interesting. So do you, too, find it hard to stay in the dream once you become lucid?

Well, I only had my first intentionally induced lucid dream last night, if you don't count my brief WILD. And yeah, my guess is it lasted for 5 minutes or less. Hopefully I can extend that next time.

5 minutes? Wow, that's excellent! So apparently the fact that you used lucid dreams to get out of nightmares hasn't had a detrimental effect on your ability to stay in the dream. Ok, that's good to know. I usually manage to stay in the dream for seconds after becoming lucid. The only exception was last weekend when I, in some kind of fluke, had lucid dreams for several hours. I have no idea what caused it. Could have been something about ingesting the right nutrients at the right time.
