Staying Away From Distractions

I was having this strange dream the other night where i was at the beach with two hot girls, and we were flirting and all but at a point during the dream one of the girls says,"its to dark out here let me turn on the lights. She turns on the lights and nothing happens, first of all there are no lights a beaches, and second of all im too dumb to relize that the lights not working is a common dream sign. So what can i do to stay away from the distractions in dream and become more focused on becoming lucid?

Repeatedly telling yourself to recognize a specific dream sign before going to bed usually works (if I see a light switch fail, I will know that I am dreaming). Also whenever you see that dream sign in real life, RC. Since lights rarely fail in real life, you could RC every time you turn one off. Tedious maybe, but would definitely help. But as you continue your lucid dreaming attempts, you'll see that we miss obvious dream signs, and that just happens sometimes (a lot of the time, actually). If we were smart enough in our dreams to always recognize stuff like that, lucid dreaming would be a lot easier. I hope this helps a little. I see you're new to the forum, so you get a sign:

Ah thats gutting for you, sounded like a good lucid dream opportunity missed out on there. You have got to train yourself to become more aware, doing reality checks and a very good one i think is to constantly observe your surroundings to make sure everything makes sense.
