      Physical excercise good or bad for dreams?

      Basically, I rock climbed for two hours today and then played ultimate frisbee for three hours. I'm pretty physically tired.

      Does any know if physical exhaustion makes you sleep harder and therefore not dream as well? Or does it make you dream better? Or is there no effect?

      Deep sleeping

      Some people might say it doesn't matter, although I think it makes a huge difference.

      In my experience, being physically exhausted doesn't mean I will not dream at all, but in most cases I cannot recall the dreams I have when I'm too exhausted.

      Remember that the dreams we tend to remember are the last ones we have during a whole night sleep, which occur when the body is less tired.

      I believe it's the same with the ability to become lucid. We have to be aware of the dream content, even if not lucid yet, to shift between the two states.

      I still wish I could WILD at 10:00 PM and wake up at 6:00 AM the next day, and spend 8 hours LDing. The truth is that I can only become lucid in afternoon naps, or early in the morning, during a snoozing period for instance. That is what brings me to believe that LDing cannot occur when the body is too tired.

      Unless of course someone can inform us on how to WILD even when exhausted.

      I haven't really noticed a difference.

      But then again i haven't really took notice.

      I'm the same as Pyor. Whenever I'm really exhausted physically, I can't even remember any dreams, and usually go to bed too tired to care about trying to WILD or anything.

      Well, I gave it my best shot last night, but I wasn't successful. I think you guys are right. When you're really exhausted it's generally harder to focus in your sleep. It's hard to concentrate while trying to WILD and dream recall isn't it's finest.

      Although that was only last night, so statistically it holds little credibility. I guess only further experiences will tell.

      In my experience, exercise clears up my head and helps with dream recall and vividness. Exercise does not have to be the type that makes you exhausted all night.
      You are dreaming right now.

      I workout 5 days a week before school. Then from school i work.
      By the time i go to sleep im exhausted. So i think working out hinders my dreaming ability. When i dont workout im less tired @ night.

      I think that getting really exhausted from a lot of exercise will kill your recall, but regular exercise (that isn`t to the point of exhaustion) will help regulate your sleep, among other things. Exercise is just plain good for you .

      More exercise than normal will cause more deep sleep and crappy dreams. If you run ten miles a day then your body will be used to it and sleep normally, if you run three miles a day, then run a ten miler, you will be more tired.

      Exercise in general is good for dreams though: Healthy body = healthy mind = better dreams.

      Like some others said, I find excercise, does not affect me too much in terms of dreams...If you go above and beyond, you probably will just crash for the night but if you do a moderate amount often, your body should get in the swing. I find when I work out (did) I would have some pretty interesting dreams...after my body got used to it. I'm not sure what it has to do with but I think a slight amount of excercise before bed, then a nice hot shower, might put you in a good state for dreaming, over time. just some thoughts...
