A good suggestion is to try and get excited. That's what I did when the blinking method didn't work for me.

It's worked in two situations actually. One, when I found myself drowning in a maze (literally with water) - I got a bit scared and woke up from fear of it.

Two, when I was having a little lucid nightmare - I guessed that excitement would wake me up, and wehey! It worked.

EWOLD suggest you do just the opposite and you lay down where ever you are and go to sleep in your dream. It makes sense because you detach yourself from the real world to fall asleep then you have to detach yourself from your dream for you to wake up. Try both and see what works for you.

Because someone may be crap at lucid dreaming and have no control. They will get tortured.

just knowing you're dreaming is enough control to stop that.
