Question about HI

On occasion if I cannot fall asleep in my room, I will lay on my back with my eyes open just thinking. After some time, I see blobs of usually black or greyish color swirl across my visual field, usually until I cannot see anything but the grey or black color in front of my eyes. It is the same as HI but I have my eyes open. What would be causing this and has anyone had similar experiences? Also... I wasn't sure where to post this so sorry if the thread is out of place.

I see that every so often, it's just your eyes adjusting to a different type of light. Could be a change in the colour of light or the type (sunlight is different than florescent, which is different from led)

I get these wierd blobs as well, even when my eyes are not closed, I just lie there and see green blobs go across my vision, once the amount and intensity of the images scared me, because my eyes were not closed and they took up all my vision. But as was said, I believe it is just your eyes transitioning to different light.
