Techniques To Use When Going To Bed?

I see a lot of techniques require things like waking from sleep and others don't say those kinds of things. I know WILD, MILD and DEILD require that you first wake, but are there any that don't need you to first wake from sleep? I'm sure VILD falls under this category, but are there any else?

If I'm not mistaken, DILD is for when you are already asleep. Besides affirmations, happy thoughts and a little luck, is there something else doable before the onset of sleep?

WILD, MILD, VILD... and aneyother technique involving going from the waking stage to the dream stage. Do NOT have to involve WBTB. Iv'e WILDed and VILDed without WBTB before. IT just increases the chances and speeds up the prosess is all. And its alot tougher. IF your going to do aney without WBTB then i suggest quite late at night. 11:00 - 12:00 or aneytime past. depending on your REM period.. hop ethis helped

True.. but DILD doesn't require you to first wake from sleep which is what I thought you asked for.

I would say FILD but even that recommends sleeping first.

Sasuke: I got the general idea from that. For a while, I've tried WILDs without the first 5-6 hours, sometimes coupled with VILD. Incidentially, that's twice sparked a DILD. So... attempt later at night? I go to bed mad early but often don't sleep until 10 - 10:30.

Clarity: In retrospect, you do have a plausible answer. I was just looking for something a little less passive. But when I think about it, yeah, that makes sense.

      Thanks to both.

What I do that seems to work just fine for me without sleeping first:

I just let myself drift as I normally would for sleeping, then when I realize I'm dozing off, I just do one of the normal WILD techniques. Mainly I repeat some phrase like "I'm dreaming" and I've also incorporated FILD on occasion too. Usually within about 10 min or so I go into SP.

I like this method more than just trying to WILD as soon as I get in bed because I find it a lot easier to relax and the possible distractions that can ruin a WILD (itches, swallowing, noises etc) aren't noticed as much if I'm already half asleep.

I'm not sure how well this will work for someone that hasn't WILDed before (or at least reached SP). I discovered this by accident one night when I wasn't even trying to WILD. After doing pretty much every WILD technique ever posted on these forums (only a slight exaggeration!) I think I've become a lot more aware of the feelings your body goes through when falling asleep - which helps a lot when you are trying to recognize the when you're at the brink Also, having experienced SP a lot, it doesn't startle me anymore.

      I hope this helps

What you're looking for is MILD. Mnemonic Induced LD. Basically you keep repeating something to yourself like "I will realize im dreaming" as you fall asleep. This greatly increases your chances of having a Lucid Dream that night.
