      Questions Regarding the FILD technique

I just read about this technique (formerly known as HILD) on another forum. Has anybody else heard of it? Basically, it's similar to a WILD that you do after a WBTB except instead of concentrating on HI or counting, you concentrate on your index and middle finger moving up and done very lightly like you're playing a piano. You're supposed to do it while you're on the brink of falling asleep, and you're supposed to concentrate, not on falling asleep, but on doing an RC every 20-30 seconds.

The RC mentioned in the topic was holding your nose while trying to breath. I'm confused about this. Isn't the point of WILD (variation or otherwise) to trick your body into thinking you're asleep? If you move your hand to cover your nose and you're not dreaming, won't that just ruin the whole technique, or at least cause you to have to start over?

The technique sounded interesting to me, but also very tricky because of the RC required. Isn't there another one you could employ that wouldn't involve moving your body?

Any insight or information on this technique would be appreciated.

There is a reality check some people can do (but I can't) where you use some muscle in your throat to block your airway, and if you can breathe you are dreaming. But like I said I am not able to do it.

you kinda answered the question yourself... you dont know when your gonna enter the dream, so you do the RC to catch yourself in the dream- when you fail the RC, that means your not in a dream and then you do the process over. Put it simply~ you fall asleep but you keep a part of your brain on and then your in the dream but since you believe your in your room, your dreamscape forms your bedroom and thats why you RC- to catch yourself

If I may ask, oh FILD Master ( ), do you use the hold-your-nose-and-breath RC? If so, does that hinder your progress by moving your hand to plug your nose in the first place? Or can you do that special trick with your throat to close the airway? I haven't figure the latter out yet.

Basically, I'm just trying to find a simple RC that requires little or no movement to use when trying the FILD so I don't wake my body up too much when I'm trying to consciously place myself into a LD.

Also, is there a specific way to move your fingers? I know it's compared to playing a piano. Is it more like you're sliding them back and forth or actually "tapping" them on the bed?

      Thanks!

Take notice of what happens when you swallow. You'll find your nose it blocked by the muscles at the end of your nasal passage.
Now swallow and stop at that point where your nose is blocked, try and relax everything back to normal except those muscles. Maybe you can teach yourself to block your nose on its own without swallowing.

I've always been able to do it, so I'm not sure if its something you can teach yourself. Like moving your ears, I know people who can do it, but I can't no matter how hard I try. But everyone blocks their nose when they swallow, so it's likely you can do it.

After reading the tutorials on here (read them, good stuff) I thought I'd try it out a few nights and see how I go. It took me a few nights but eventually I got it early in the morning, as usual the best time to do it.

Basically try moving your index and middle fingers like youre playing a piano, but do it so subtly that theyre moving but you can barely feel it. Let yourself drift to sleep. I think I remember a flash of light or something and I was back in the same place again when my vision went back to what it was before. I moved my hand up to pinch my nose for the RC and breathed perfectly and became completely lucid.

Its cool if it works, basically its like a WILD. Ive never gotten it to work again though

I think this neads to be said because evrybody can! do the nose plug reality check without moving... basicly.. Hold yout breath and attempt to breath.. Block your sinuses and mouth. And keep them that way whilst trying to breath.. there you have it. Not rocket science!

      Oh Yeah!

OK, after reading these explanations (they were a lot better than the ones on the tutorial) I finally got it!

*raises fists up in ultimate triumph*

So I do this RC roughly thirty seconds after I start tapping my fingers, correct? If it fails, can I just immediately start over or am I supposed to just go to sleep and try again later? I thought I read that in the tutorial, but it seems like you could easily just try again right after it fails...

Also, I'm confused about how this RC "fails"? Does if fail if you're not able to breath? That means that you're still awake of course. So it passes if you are able to breath, which IRL doesn't make sense, so you're dreaming.

Am I getting this right? LOL. I really want to try this technique...

Yes if the RC passes, then your in a dream. Just do something impossible to furture confirmed this . It really depends on how fast you fall asleep... Put it like this: Its an instant WILD with no HI or SP. My first time I failed, tried many times but failed, so I tried once more and it work. Try this though to help your chances if you fail: Set your alarm 10 to 30mins after you fail and fall asleep- then when you wake, do the process over.
