      Meta-Lucid-Dreaming

So I think that the name for a dream within a dream is meta-dreams. If not, thats the name for it I've used in this post

My question is, if you're dreaming already and think its reality, "fall asleep" in the dream then realise THATS a dream. Are you actually lucid?

It's happened to me quite a few times, wether it be from a false awakening where I try to WILD, or just fall asleep in a dream, enter another dream scene and realise I'm dreaming that.

I originally thought that maybe I'd have less control over these, as I still dont know that the starting point for them wasn't reality. But now I dont know. Does the route you take to lucidity really matter? The point is that you know you're in a dream, so you have control over it.

Can you even really dream within a dream, or do you "fall asleep" (close your eyes) and your body thinks you're in a dream - but in "reality" you've actually just changed dream scenes?

anyways, lots of questions, not much content

If your lucid, then your lucid, even if your in a dream in a dream in a dream in a dream in a dream - to infinity and beyond.

I would go for the change of scenario. Its like when you wake your in one kind of state, when your sleep and dreaming your in another kind of state, but i dont think there is a state for a dream within a dream . In that case you had to live in a time compression lucid dream life where you forgot that you where in a dream, and then go to sleep, and even then i think you just would change scenario.

Jammy, great answer. If we were dreaming within a dream, then we would literally have to be in another world to be dreaming in that dream.

Weirdly enough I dreamt that I was in a dream (in a dream) then I woke up (still in the dream) and told people about the dream I just had (still in the first dream) ... confusing to explain but hey!

i fought for a long time because i was lucid in the dream that i fell asleep in.. but the dream that i was currently in, i never relized was a dream.. So i guess you can be lucid in a dream in a non-lucid dream.

The closest I have come to being lucid (hopefully this will not be true for long) was when I realized I was dreaming, and thought I was waking up. I began to imagine myself spinning, but none-the-less became aware (?) that I was in my bed. I heard someone (someone I know personally) in the room, by my bed, telling me to spin, and I felt angry, thinking that although they were trying to give me helpful advice, they were ultimately pulling me out of my dream. However, there was noone actually in the room, and in retrospect, the entire scene was dreamy, and the entire experience was entirely within a dream.

In summation, I dreamed that I was partway between a lucid dream and reality. This, as well as the dream described in the original post are both examples of simply dreaming of having a lucid dream, which is quite different from actually having a lucid dream. In a lucid dream, you must be conscious and must have control. If you are still in a normal dream state, but are dreaming that you have control and are conscious, this cannot be considered a lucid dream.

I know that I didn't have a real lucid dream (maybe it had the potential before I began to "wake up"), but i really cant say for anyone else. Only the experiencer can say... so ask yourself, "Did I have complete control? Was I fully aware that I was in the dream state? Was my conscious mind working the same way as in waking reality?"

Besides, what good is a lucid dream if you can't control it?

I've had somethime like that happen to me.

I was in school (in the beginign dream) and I fell asleep and I was in a place, and for some reason I thought that It was a shared dream between my friend's in the classroom dream at the begining....I asked my friend in teh dream 'Hey, am I dreaming?' and she said yeah. These next 2 parts I don't know what happened first.. So....I went over 2 two other kids sitting near stairs that were like blocks and blue... and I talked to one kid for a few seconds..And either before or after that I had tried tofly, once by just jumping and then by running and jumping...The part that got me confused is I think after that either the scene blacked out and it went to that one part or I woke up back into the school dream, while the bell rang and went to lunch..o.o..xD

Researchers at the Lucidity Institute would tend to disagree, as would I.
