Waking up when Lucid

Hello, I have trying to attain lucidity for a while now, but have been really busy with school sports.
Last night I had a dream I was driving a car and I drove into a curb and went flying up in the air. While I was up there I realized that I was dreaming and tried to fly higher. Nothing happend for a second, and then I went up into the clouds. Then the whole sky reeled back, turned black and white, and I woke up, shaking and feeling really cold.
This has happend before when I realize I am dreaming in the dream, the dream world reels and turns black and white, and I wake up, or lose lucidiy.
I have tried spinning, but it never seems to work.

Any advice?

Do you get really excited when you realize that you're lucid? If you do that could be the reason that you're waking up. Try not to focus on the fact that your dreaming because I find that when I look at something and think "Wow, I can't believe that's fake!" The dream becomes less real. So my advice to you is to not get too excited (I know that's hard) and try not to over think the fact that everything you're seeing is a dream.

I use to have that very same wolf in my avatar on here. Then it got replaced with a platypus. But anyway you could avoid doing things that are weird (such as flying a car) for a while. Do normal stuff doing like real life. Even though you have a chance of slipping back into a non lucid dream if you get distracted (thats happened to me before) you have a less chance of waking up.

Cool! The wolf is my favourite animal. Next to the lion.

The reason things like spinning and rubbing your hands together usually work is because your inducing a sensation in the dream world to focus on. It doesnt matter what it is.. try to find something that you can "visualize" (such a vague word, sight is such a small part of it)

Rubbing your hands is like tactile sensations, its supposed to take your focus off of waking up, and onto something vivid in the dream. It doesnt do any good if your rubbing your hands panicking about waking up. Thats how it works for me anyways..

Same goes for spinning, its simply there to take your mind off your physical body, and back to the dream world.. there are really endless possibilities. If you are a good visualizer you could try to spawn an object and just inspect all the fine details and such.. just do something in the dream to keep you occupied so you stop worrying about waking up.

In most of my LD's, I know 100% when im going to wake up, sometimes you just cant avoid it. Take advantage of this to try to reaaaally relax before your dream completely fades away. Try to stay still.. and then preform DEILD when you wake up. You will often find you can chain LD's over and over by doing this. Usually you can slip back into your previous dream, and when I dont I generally will have a false awakening.

Waking up from a dream isnt always a bad thing, dont worry so much. Take your first few LD's for what they are.. a learning process.
