      HI

I was lieing in bed trying to induce SP and all of a sudden I could see a cup right in front of my eyes. It looked pretty real but went away when I focussed on it. Was this HI? I always thought HI was random patterns and stuff.
      Thoughts?

hypnagogic imagery is a misleading term as it ultimately involves all of your 'senses'. it's very common to have complete hypnagogic 'dreams' before you actually fall asleep. for me it seems to begin with vague visual forms that solidify into completely realistic looking objects, which expand into scenes, which then begin to involve movement, sounds and finally my interaction. if you are still conscious when you enter the final stages you may be able to actually transition directly into an LD.
