      Can't become Lucid in Dream

hey im sorry to bother you but i was wondering if you could please help me. When im in a dream i dont even know. i remember my dream last night. i was in the barbershop and talking to another barber, but my barber wasnt in his right chair (right spot) but he told me i have to wait afta that guy but not in a jokingly way and he's usually always joking. I didnt even know it was a dream. i did not even really have controll. like i dont see how i would be able to test to see if it is a dream. I understand switches sometimes doesnt work, and also your hands mah look different. However, i dont seem to do any of that in my dream i dont look at my hands, and i dont know how i would make myself look at my hand.

      thanks

You learn to question dreams by questioning reality. Are you dreaming now? Do a reality check, do one every time something seems unreasonable. Set your clock to chime/beep every hour and do a reality check then. At night place it where you can hear it when your sleeping, I've heard thats worked for a few people. Over time you just begin to question if you're dreaming when you dream. Give it time and read some articles on becoming lucid.

Seachmall just pretty much nailed it. You have to make reality checks a habit during your everyday life, becuase then this habit will carry on into your dreams. However, I just finished replying to a thread where many people were having trouble becuase of that method of using a timer to beep while you sleep. This actually just makes a lot of people not able to sleep becuase they are anticipating the beep subconsciouly and it makes them restless. So maybe it won't work for you, maybe it will. Either way, the most important thing is doing reality checks consistantly throughtout the day.

      Some handy reality checks:
plug your nose and try breathing
count how many fingers you have (often you have too many in dreams lol)
try to push your finger through the palm of your other hand
try to make a number on a digital clock change (or a piece of paper, etc)
just look at your hand (sometimes in dreams they are deformed, which is not funny)
      the list goes on

      hope thats helpful

Just keep at it hey. Same thing happened to me. Do what Seachmall said, and keep thinking about it. Ask yourself every time you remember to, "How did I get here?" and go over it in your head. Do this in your dream and you're sure to eventually pick something up.

If it's any compensation, I've only "realized" that I was dreaming twice; most times I just kind of know it. Some people take longer than others, so don't get discouraged. I'm a slower one too.

It's not uncommon for you to not have control over your dream when you aren't lucid. It feels like a movie right? That's how virtually all of my nonlucids are. You've only been trying for a few days right? It'll come with time, and experience will make them comes easier. When I first started lucid dreaming, I only realized it because I was in such a jam(someone about to kill me) that I would say "I'm dreaming" as a cop out. Good thing I was right. Now I start to just find things wrong with the dream. I've had 10-15 dreams about school this summer, and just started to realize in them,"Hey wait, I'm not in school!"

It sounds like you're really new to lucid dreaming. My suggestion would be to read up on tutorials as much as you can. The reason it takes so long for people to get their first lucid sometimes is because the tricky part is knowing how to start. I would say from now on:
      1) always write your dreams down in a dream journal (usually you shouldn't have to write in it in the middle of the night unless you wake up from a very long and vivid one. Those are good ones to remember)
      2) do reality checks like the ones already mentioned. Only do reality checks when you see your dreamsign (which you can read up on if you dont know what that is) or if you see something out of place. Reality checking because you think that you need to make a habit of it is a waste of time because it rarely ever works. I think the reason people keep saying that you should do this in their tutorials is because when they randomly RC in a dream, they think it was by habit... when it was only a coincidence
      3) At least read a tutorial on DILD to start out. When you feel more confident or feel that that technique isn't working, move on to other techniques, but if you try too many then it will be too much and make it harder. Just try to keep the techniques strait and maybe stick with one for a week or something

here's a really good tutorial on basically what you should do if you don't know how to go about lucid dreaming. This one is my favorite
