Question Please help, I think I was close...

Hey guys, I'm a new member, this is my first post. I've been on here quite a lot (great site), but just decided to join. I'd just like some help please. I have tried to WILD multiple times without succeeding. This is what usually happens: I lay on my back, eyes closed, and relax. I count my breaths to anchor myself to conciousness, but otherwise let my mind drift. I feel my body go numb. After a while, i see some vague purple/green patterns, maybe the occasional split-second image. My eyes sometimes start to shake (REM sort of sensation). Then, I feel sort of a dizzy falling sensation ( a bit like laying down when you're tipsy), and see more purple stuff. Then I let my mind carry on drifting, but nothing happens, this is as far as I get. If I try to visualize something, nothing happens, and if I try to move, I can easily, even though my body feels numb/heavy when I am still. I never enter sleep paralysis (or do I? I've never had it before, so I don't know what it's like haha).
However, I tried again yesterday, and it was different. I was going for a normal afternoon nap, and only remembered to WILD partway through. I was nearly asleep when I remembered. I didn't feel the falling sensation, but I saw some imagery which seemed much clearer, a doll's arm and then a sort of garden bush thingy. It seemed to be getting slightly more vivid, but then my mum came into the room in RL and clanged an ironing board, waking me up Gutted, eh?
Anyway, was I closer this time, or the other times when I feel sensations but not very vivid imagery? Sorry for the long post, it's sort of hard to explain... Any advice/Tips? I'm desperate to have my first lucid dream, it sounds so great! *sigh*
      Thanks,
      Madmax

P.S., I tried it today, but just fell asleep into an Incredibly odd dream, and STILL didn't become lucid. GRR!

Are you trying WILD after 5-6 hours of sleep? That improves success rate. Remember WILD is not an easy technique. It can be very effective and your efforts can be largely compensated but it takes time and patience. I would suggest to practice some reality checks throughout the day, they will help you with WILDs and DILDs also.
And very important...keep yourself motivated %100!

Thanks for the advice. I sometimes do it after sleep, but get too tired (I'll work on it). Yeah I also try MILDS & DILDS, no success yet. ah well, more RCs I guess..

Yeah definitely try it with a WBTB (Wake Back To Bed) for about 5-6 hours like mentioned above, that helps obtaining WILDs a lot. When you see these patterns/split-second images, that is Hypnotic Imagery, which means you are pretty close to entering SP. And when you enter SP, it will get very intense (especially if you've never experienced it consiously before) so you have to remember to take deep breaths and remain calm throughout the experience. Do this and you will find yourself Lucid Dreaming in no time!

Ok will do, thanks a lot. I didn't realsie that those images counted as HI. I was still wondering which time out of the two different experiences I was closest to enterinfg LD though, so I know what signs to look for when I attempt it in future. Can anyone offer any help?
