Those are the signs of SP setting in. How long is impossible to say. What exactly do you mean when you say that you couldn't concentrate once your heart started beating loudly? I'm thinkinking that you were on the verge but for one reason or another opted out at the last minute. It could be that the reality check snapped you out of it. IMO a reality check isn't really nessesary at a time like this. You will either see the imagery building and you will slip into the dream, or you will head off into an OBE and separate from your physical body. Either way a reality check doesn't really apply. |

I think you were pretty close, yeah. Early on when I would fail it was because the noise and vibrations and pounding heartbeat would freak me out. Now that I've got all of the scary stuff under control my main failure is still getting too excited or too alert. You have to remain calm and go with it. If I find myself thinking "This is it!" "This is it!" then it fades and I'm wide awake. |

It's kind of like how everyones first few lucid dreams are 2 seconds long and usually consist of "Holy shit I'm doing it!" and then it's over. Come to think of it that sounds like losing your virginty, doesn't it? lol It was the burst of energy that did you in. Relax and go with it. Knowing what to expect is half the battle. |
