      Bodybuilding protein shakes

I just recently started exercising on a daily basis and immediately started noticing something odd. Every night that I would mix a protein shake after my workout, I would have an intense vivid dream. Not lucid though, maybe I'm just not skilled enough at it yet, but it is a start.

The shake mix I'm using is Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein (o_O) and is available at Target. Since there are no B-vitamins or anything I'm thinking maybe it's the amino acids. Anyone else have that experience?

I think that it is unlikely to be the shake. When you start a weight training regiment, it will generally cause a boost in serotonin production and periods of deeper sleep, particularly at the beginning of the night, which will cause a bit of REM rebound (longer periods of REM later in the night, which you are more likely to remember). The increased levels of serotonin production are caused by intense exercise and this is one of many reasons why exercise helps with the treatment of depression.

Hmm, I start working out pretty intensely recently and over the past month, this graph shows the # lucids I had per day, and the date... Of course I also moved back to school so there are all sorts of factors that changed... sleeping habits, diet, stress levels, noise levels (ugh), etc. so I don't think I can just single out working out, but I did start on the 25th of August. Maybe I'll try some protein shakes. If it helps my workout and my lucid dreaming, that'd be awesome I'm not bodybuilding though, I'm doing strength training.

I know what your talking about.

      I took this Annablic Halo.

For all of you non-believers.. Here's the label of everything in it.

By the looks of it to me, it looks like dream potion.

      HAHA

There's no possible way that it could be good for you.

I had the same problem (if you want to call it that). In cooking we made a strawberry banana smothie and I don't like bananas so I didn't add much. But when I drank it I must've passed out because next thing I know I'm in the nurses office. They said I passed out. That night I had a very vivid dream.(that dream is the reason I found this forum.).

In my opinion something in the strawberries did it but as for you, I don't know.

I agreed with Fiddler about the increase boost of Serotonin after the exercise period. But the amino acids in your protein powder probably helped too since they technically could convert to Serotonin as well. So you got a double whamy.

This stuff looks like a recipe for kidney damage. I would definitely talk to your doctor about taking this, since it is going to be very hard on your kidneys.

This Topic belongs in the Lucid Aids board rather than here.

Keep your hair on mate, you sound like my housemate! All I ever hear is "The jam doesn't belong in the fridge, it makes your toast cold...The scissors belong in the second drawer, not the third drawer...The toilet duck doesn't belong in the pantry...The cat doesn't sleep in the linen press...." Blah blah blah !!

I was joking you know...Though he posted the same thing on three topics. I might well argue that those kind of posts don't belong on this board at all - they're more suited to an online support group for anal retentiveness (wikipedia, for example).

as for organization, one little slip up like this isn't going to crash the site or anything

Yeah I've actually never been to the doctor.... My dad is a doctor and assumes that eatting right and excersizing, there's not much the doctor can tell me that my dad can't without opening me up.

Yea this thread isn't only about protein shakes, we also started discussing simply exercising and the effect that may have on lucid dreaming. So why ignore that entire aspect of the thread and relegate it to the lucid aides section? I mean in that case we may as well say, "Well, breathing! Bah, oxygen! That's a lucid aide. We shouldn't talk about breathing. So is sleep. Begone, off to the lucid aides section!"
