Reading the "DCs Say the Darndest Things" thread made me think of an odd way to initialize a lucid dream. If it's been suggested before, the search tool didn't find it, and I'm assuming it hasn't.
Anyway, I should first say, I haven't tested this yet as I just thought of it today. I came up with this for people that haven't had much luck with other methods, and are close to giving up.
Last ditch effort you could say.
Anyway, on to the tech.
As the name suggests, it's based on your emotions. Specifically, the emotions you feel in response to something someone said, asked you, or did to/near you.
To prepare, spend a day or two observing how you emotionally respond to the things around you. Take special note of times it feels stronger. You'll notice a slight pattern, and if you're good at controlling your emotions, you can stay in the middle of the emotional spectrum, making extreme changes much more noticeable.
Any time there is an extreme (to either side) remember what you were doing, who is with you, where you are, and the emotion, of course. Tell yourself, "The next time I feel that, I'll be in a dream." If you're like me, you'll probably have to repeat it several times, and it would probably be most effective shortly before going to bed. If the event happened early in the day, do your best to remember as much as possible. Later, before going to sleep, replay it, either as yourself or a third party.
Basically, it's like a WILD, but connecting it emotionally may help some people better than just visualizing a scenario. Trying to bring the emotion back to the surface makes the event easier to remember, and visualize. Visualizing, something of a weak area for me.
I'll be trying this, and I'll keep this thread updated with any progress.
If anyone else tries this with any success, please let me know ASAP.
