A new type of reality check

I realized that I often attain lucidity by catching myself thinking in a dream. Normally, throughout the day, I catch myself thinking only a few times where as most of the time I just don't pay attention to my thoughts.

Don't the rest of you? Heh.

Anyway, my idea is to just to try and catch yourself thinking more often during the day so you'll do it during a dream more and more frequently and hopefully realize any oddities that are going on around you.

      Thoughts?

Hey how ya goin AvatarOfDeception, welcome to the forum mate

When you are thinking during the day, what are you thinking about. Any of these thoughs about reality, or questioning reality, to see if you are dreaming? If so this is a method or practice that alot of people do as much as they can, to induce lucid dreams.

Yep, questioning reality whenever you catch yourself thinking about something unusual, or dreams, or reality.
However its a little too advanced for a lot of beginners, as they just can't seem to catch themselves when they're in a dream state

An easier method is to use a clearer form of dreamsigns - eg. if you dream a lot about your mother, then learn to question reality whenever you see her

Otherwise consider using wake-induced methods (eg. WILD/MILD/HILD) - where you fall into a dream but still stay conscious (split consciousness)
Theres tutorials about all this under the tutorials section
Remember that wake induced methods generally only work with wake-back-to-bed (WB2B)

Yes! Question reality all the time! That in combination with recognizing my dreamsigns works best for me.

Wow, great advise about recognizing dream signs Seeker. I think that is the missing link I've been looking for. I will start working on that tomorrow. Thanks for all you did in getting this site back up.

No, the idea isn't to spontainiously do reality checks, it's just to teach yourself to stop wandering with your mind and think about what you're doing for a second.

It's sort of hard to explain.

In dreams, don't you remember thinking something specific? Well I think that the trick is to catch those brief moments in dreams when we are actually thinking something and not going along with the dream.

Rather than setting it into your head that you must check reality everytime you see a flower or something, you just catch yourself sometime while you're spacing out or just not paying attention to anything in paticular.

Typically, unless you have a mental-intensive job, you don't watch your thoughts all the time. I'm a junior in high school so I have a good amount of time in class to not really pay attention to anything. Sometimes though, spontainiously, I sorta realize that I'm letting my mind go blank. After that, I blink a few times and think about what I was just thinking about and try to remember to catch myself doing that in the future.

The last 3 or 4 lucid dreams were due to myself catching my thinking.

I dunno if this makes sense or not, so keep up with the replies.

It's sorta like doing reality checks, but it doesn't get drilled into your head so the reality check actually becomes a regular thing. Also, I think it's easier to train.

Oh, and I've been coming to these forums for awhile - just been quiet since it went down for everyone, heh

Taking yourself in thinking when dreaming and doing reality checks when recognizing dreamsigns. That would be the ultimate
And i believe RC lose theyr effectivness when they become a habit you dont take seriously. So to make them effective you have to do them troughoutly every time you do them, and really imagine being inside a dream. I think its hard to do it when you just did it 10 minuts ago and had a big realization not being inside a dream. But its worth the effort.

Yeah, I usually use a variant of this, I just used to force my mind to think about dreams, but now it just drifts there by itself.
