I agree with arby. Praying/meditating or repeating mantras that would reinforce the idea of getting better sleep, or dreaming non-lucidly might help. If your friend has a strong ability to use mind over matter (seems to be the case with alot of naturals), she should try to apply this idea to her desired end, like getting more restful sleep.
Also, from my experience, I find that lucidity is more easily obtained when I've already had more restful sleep earlier in the night (ie. naps, sleeping longer than usual, or waking up and deciding to sleep longer).
She could try going to bed only when her mind and body is tired, which should decrease the amount of REM sleep, and trigger her body/mind to switch to deeper sleep.
