Very strange "spasm" or "violent jerk"

It didn't happen to me once last night, not even twice, but three times!

I attempted a WILD before going to bed. I began trying to focus on seeing images but they never came. The next thing I knew I had some sort of back spasm where I curled up into a ball and grunted.

It was similar to those times when you fall off your bed and freak out and wake up, or jump almost in your dream and in real life. However it was different because I didn't fall and I was laying there on my side in the middle of the bed.

Like I said, this happened to me three times that night.

      Does this mean anything?

Not only am I not able to stay conscious during my lucid dreams (I've only had 1 so far), but I didn't even remember what I dreamed about last night.

I'm trying to get a response in the next hour or so and listen to any advice so I can try something else tonight!

      Thanks.

Hmm, I think these spasms are pretty common.

I got some yesterday and the day before yesterday, out of nowhere my leg made a "violent jerk". I am not sure of the functions, maybe some kind of mechanism to see of the body is asleep, could be REM related.

If anyone got some knowledge on this I would like to know too.

It's annoying because every time I do it I feel awake. Even though I try not to move after that (maybe it was a reflex of the body), I somehow feel as though it was my fault because it jets me out of relaxation and I feel as though I have to start SP all over again.

Or perhaps we're in a dream at that point? I tried a reality check and nothing happened.

So far I've been lying completely still while doing some reality checks. Maybe I'll try getting up and walking around, and seeing if I can make monsters appear.

This used to happen to me in high school when I would sleep in class. Then you look around and see if anyone noticed =D

Happens to me every time. Especially when sleeping at a desk.

That's the worst. I hate when that happens

@nobodycares: I wouldn't be worried. The jerking happens to a lot of people including me, and about not remembering your lucid. Are you good at remembering your non-lucids? If you dont have good recall in general it wont just magically become better when you have lucid dreams. Or was that just a weird occurrence?

My recall is outstanding. I usually dream 3 times per night, and remember all three in the morning. I try to lie in bed after I wake up after each one, trying to go lucidly into one, but that hasn't worked so far.

I think I was lucid once, but it was so quick and I didn't have a chance to do anything because I immediately woke up when I tried to chance it from night to day.

But I seem to be progressing more and more every day. Now I'm jerking around, so I'm thinking I'm close. I read somewhere that if you can stay awake while the jerk happens, hold still, and wait another few minutes, you will go immediately into your dream.

Another problem I am having is trying to do a WILD at bed time (10 pm usually). Lucid dreaming is hard since I work over 15 hours each day (not enough time or brain power for reality checks) and only get about 5 hours a night (they tell you to start WILD after 5 hours of sleep). Perhaps I am trying to enter dreams in non-REM sleep, however I always remember several dreams every night so I must be dreaming.

I NEED to control it. I used to be able to when I was a kid, and now I can't at all.

I need to have a good nightmare and I'll immediately know it's a dream, but nothing really scares me anymore... need to find a good movie lol.

I think that's your problem. Try doing a WILD WBTB ,or WILD nap.

Ive never had success WILD'ing right before bed.

Completely true. This usually means that you are dreaming, but you haven't reached SP yet. I fell asleep during the extra 30 minutes or so that was left after I finished the SAT (rather, the equivalent). I had a dream, and two people were in a fight, I reached out to catch somebody's fist, and did the action in real life. My fist flew out sideways, and I almost fell out of my desk.

It happens to me if I'm exhausted when going to sleep. And it's quite common.
I believe it's called a hypnagogic myoclonic twitch.
