      Restrictive dream characters in Lucids

Does anyone have problems with dream characters restricitng them in some way when they get lucid? Either in an aggressive way, trying to restrain you by grabbing you, or pestering you so that you loose lucidity or wake up? If so, do you have any ideas on how to overcome this? Maybe this used to be a problem for you but you now have overcome it. If so, how? Because I'm fed up with this wasting my lucid time! Thanks for any tips you can offer.

a common problem. try these advices

      1. ignore them and everything else, try to get away from them and do your own thing.

      2. tell them to shut up or go away and really mean it. act tough or threaten them if you have to

      3. Kill them. i dont recommend this one unless the 2 above did not work. anyway kill them however you want. the one time i killed them was i just shattered them like glass. it doesnt have to be messy. btw, becareful...im not really sure what the consequences are. my experience right after i killed them was.....unpleasant to say the least....

I had a hit man come after my friend and I in an LD once. We made him kill the guy who sent him...

Thanks for the advice. Hmmmmm. I've tried 1 and 2, and somehow LOL after what you say I don't want to try 3 Also they often over power me, so it probably wouldn't work, or not reliably. Sometimes 1 works, but often it doesn't. And I don't want to take a gamble with my lucidity, I want something that works 100%. I hope it is as common as you say because then there might be someone like me who's had these DC (Dream Characters) pester them/over power them so often and they've found a way to change this. For instance, transforming the scene so that they are no longer there. Any ideas for a fast way to change the dream scenery? (Has to be fast, as normal intending is not quick enough when they are pursuing me).

a fast way to change the scenery? hmm..try closing your eyes and opening them expecting to be in a different place or you could try spinning really fast again. you could always try a door or a self made portal to

I often have problems with DC's confusing me and talking nonsense, in order to make me lose lucidity.
My solution was #1 above, sometimes #2

Or maybe try and ask them what it feels like to be a character in someone’s else dream? (inspiration from Waking Life btw)

I'm annoyed with my dream guide for a few reasons..

#1 I've never seen him, i just know the presence in dreams and he does talk.

#2 I've never sucessfully made him appear, he comes and goes when he wants to, generally at the most annoying times.

#3 He messes with my dreams.. like if i wanna do something.. he for some reason stops me, which i hate, cause i lose dream control. Sometimes he'll even say something stupid like "thats against the rules" to which i reply, what rules???? This is my dream dammit all.

That doesn't sound like a dream guide to me
The theory goes that dream guides are benevolent and do not question you. They simply help you to achieve your goals - whatever they are.

Something seems odd about that, you might have something else posing as your dreamguide.

I plan on beheading it, then impaling its head on my dream castle as a warning for other "dream guides" to NOT SCREW WITH ME!

Erm...DCs, you mean. You only get one DG. Er...I think, anyway. And he/she shouldn't annoy you. But still, go for the butchering! Also, try flying away from them. If they follow, tell them that the rules prevent them from flying and light their wings on fire.

Meh, whatever works. Besides, killing is fun! Although...have you ever considered hiring a Dream Mafia? That's a good idea, now that I think of it...I mean, hire some of your DC's to begin a mafia, and then, even if the exact dream character never comes back, you still have a whole mafia to do your bidding! Then you could get the mafia to kill all of the DC's that tick you off!

I don't know if this will work for you or not, but I once had a dream that a guy was threating me. For some reason I kissed him to change the mood. Then he started kissing me. I realized this was a dream and became lucid.
Another time I had a dream that my dad was saying he wanted to get rid of us. I said I love you and he said I love you back. Then I realized it was a dream. So I guess you could try changing the mood like that then you can get away. It's worth a try anyway if nothing else works.
Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.

      Hey Yes!

I can really relate to this experience. There are often characters in my lucid dreams, who try and frustrate me, or simply restrict me from exploring on my own.

In the past, this would oftne happen within the confines of my house ; ie. my parents, asking me to do things like "wash the dishes", or arguing when I went outside in the "middle of the night"

I also have had difficulties with people who wrestle with me, or block my path of exploring, holding me up wiht all kinds of distractions. I think the best thing is to not give into FRUSTRATION. Because it is the FRUSTRATION that usaully wakes you up. Try and maintain a state of calm, and consider your options from there. Often, you can ignore them.

It seems as if the majority of people that have posted here use some meens of violence.
I would go the opposite route. Confront the dream character. Ask him, her or it what it wants from you. Be nice to it.
..........Your subconcious puts these obstacles in your way for a reason. I don't think the answer it is looking for is to get shot or beheaded. You have to use your mind to overcome these obstacles in order to move foward.

I agree - if at all possible - try something non-violent.
Of course, I've broken this rule in the past myself

      Duh

YES DUH, These are parts of your selfs that need attention, its why they distract you its why they haunt you... THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE THEM STOP IS to either kill them (or do the bellow v), which resets the dream character, sometimes fixing the problem, most times not.

The best way to make anyone stop annoying/persuing/harrasing you in a dream is to CONFRONT THEM ON IT... Ask them why they do it, Show them kindness and give them the attention they need. You need to accept them and acknoledge them... after that they'll leave you alone.

And trust me, thats alot faster than trying to ignore them as they keep coming back dream after dream... Just go up to them say, "what do you want" give a hug or something... and it's over.

Anything you kill in your mind always regenerates into something else or the same thing... so its not the best way.

Accepting something always works, unless its a fear, in which case you need to experience it and overcome it.

Thats my advice, and it's common sense, since its your own mind... unless it demons that are doing this.. (but, I don't think so).

      -Daniel

The human mind has far greater potential than society has conditioned you to believe.
