DEILD and dream notes--is there a way to do both?

      Hi,

I'm starting to experiment with DEILD, which means I'm doing that technique during a time I formerly would have been making dream notes.

I have very good dream recall (thankfully) and even if I don't make notes during the night, I can often remember a pile of dreams all at once early in the morning, but it's best if I make notes during the night, too.

A couple of mornings ago, I recalled several dreams at once--one of which was the longest and best LD I'd had in quite some time! Yow! I almost missed remembering it because I'm practicing DEILD instead of making dream notes several times during the night.

Any tips on how to (sort of) do both? Thanks in advance.

The only way I can think of doing both is writing notes right after your DEILD attempt, whether it be a success or failure.

DEILDs are nice because you'll know if you've failed within the first couple of minutes. Therefore, if you don't manage to get back into a dream within say, at max, ten minutes, then feel free to write your notes. If you do succeed, just write them up after your lucid. You should find that events are easier to remember if you have continual lucidity.

Worst case scenario, you'll fall asleep without retaining consciousness. If you're lucky, you'll wake up again soon and be able to write notes at that time.

That's the best set up I can think of. Let me know what you think.

Well, this might not really be allowed in a true DEILD, but what I normally do is review the dream in my mind subvocally, like I was telling it to somebody. You don't have to move or write anything down to do this, but actually putting it into words in your head and telling it in story form -- even without saying it out loud -- really locks it into my brain, and I can then remember all of them even if I wake up and go back to sleep several times.

But like I said, it might be too much mental activity for a true DEILD attempt.

Thank you for the good suggestions, Mzzkc and Darkmatters. Much appreciated, and they all sound reasonable to me.
