In November of 2005 I went to LaBerge's workshop on lucid dreaming. He invited as a guest lecturer Russell Targ who spoke and led an exercise on remote viewing.

I happened to be in the States last month and fortuitously met Joe McMoneagle. Joe had a career in military intelligence, served in combat in Vietnam, received the Legion of Merit, and was one of the initial remote viewers for military intelligence.

I highly recommend his book The Stargate Chronicles: Memoirs of a Psychic Spy You do not need to believe anything to find this a stimulating book.

One of the ideas we decided to pursue was doing a remote viewing while in the lucid dream state....I have been playing with lucid dream states (LDS) for some time, as a result of having worked with Robert Monroe at his lab in 1983 and '84. I had always viewed LDS as a prelude to the OBE state of consciousness, or at least one of the last and easiest steps towards accomplishing a controlled OBE. pp. 199-200[/b]
So McMoneagle went to the Stanford sleep lab to do experiments with Stephen LaBerge. He describes one lucid dream:

I was riding a bike on a dirt road somewhere in the countryside when I realized I needed to be awake and aware and had another job to do. I signaled them, then realized I had no idea whatsoever where the lab was, never mind what door I was supposed to be entering. I just stood there in my dream wondering what to do next. After thinking about it for a while, I realized that since I controlled everything that was happening anyway, i'd simply close my "dream state eyes" click my heels together like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, and when I opened my eyes, I'd be standing in whatever the target actually was. p. 202[/b]
McMoneagle describes the results of his viewing, and also an interesting experience with multiple false awakenings.

LaBerge is credited with the scientific 'proof' of lucid dreaming. He works and writes as a scientist. he is willing to work with Russell Targ, and do experiments with Joe McMoneagle.

I share this story in hope that some 'skeptics' may realize that the scientific approach is to explore and experiment not to make absolute statements about what is possible.

I also find it distressing that a long time member of DVs can be banned for her claims of precognition and OBEs. While LaBerge is actually involved with research in these areas.

Not that anyone can tell you what to believe.
Everyone should find their own experience of truth.
Still we need to question our own assumptions.
Good thinking involves separating beliefs from experience.
Intelligence involves analysing our own experience and others.
Reality takes work to find.
Lucidity involves awakening from dreamed beliefs.
