are precognitive dreams, dreams where you see the future and then it happens to you? or do precognitive dreams show you what is probable to happen and you have the chance to change the outcome during waking life. however, if it is where they tell the future what if you became lucid in a precognitive dream, hmmm control your future?

and by the way these are all just what ifs im not saying that i believe in this or that it is a fact

they are real....and they can be lucid or not and you can sometimes change the outcome if you know it was a precog dream

Raising the BS flag.
They're patently false.
At the most, they're a composition of your mind's subconscious thoughts on an issue--for example, you subconsciously picking up on slight changes in a person's behavior, and having those subconscious thoughts manifest themselves through a dream that "predicts" a change for that person.

Add that to self-fulfilling prophecy and retroactive shoehorning and there you have it.

Simply put, there is no such thing as a precognitive dream.

They can be called premonitions too. And yes they are possible, and real.

Just last night (I said this somewhere else) I had a dream involving a person who I hadn't thought about or contacted in quite a while. Today, the person contacted me. What prompted the dream about her, before I knew that she had contacted me?

It's happened many times before, but nothing huge like you'd see in a movie.

Dang Burns, why'd you have to go and move this to Beyond Dreaming?

Pshht. Well, rules stop me from arguing with you about it now that it's here, so carry on then.

But my I just assure you that precog is entirely, unmistakably, and undoubtedly false.

Yes, they are definitely true. Once I had a dream that I realized I was dreaming, but it wasn't just any dream, it was a precog (you can tell). I decided to test out this theory of controlling the future. I decided to do the obvious; win the lottery. I went to the store and started scratching all the tickets looking for a winner. I threw away all the $2, $500, etc.. I was going for $1M at least. Nothing was coming up, so I decided to alter one of the tickets into a winning $20M ticket. I scratched it to verify and woke up. When I woke up, I went immediately to the store and bought the ticket in the same place on the shelf in the waking life store as it was in the dream store and won $20M!

I once dreamt that I saw a friend on a stage near the side of the road. It was a black stage and he was just standing up on it acting all confused under the stage lights. I walked up on stage and tried to talk to him but he was acting all crazy like he wasnt really there.. like he was brain damaged because he couldnt talk or anything and moved like a zombie. I also noticed that he was almost clear like a ghost and was just as white and it really was just like looking at the walking dead. Anyway after I tried to talk to him an ambulance driver came on stage and he was very sad and he asked me to leave so that he could talk to my friend alone. So I walked off stage and that was pretty much the dream.

So I told all my friends(about 20 at least)the next day that I had this dream where I thought this friend had died. They all laughed and said 'I wish' because he owed most of them money. Anyway it was only 3 or 4 days later the same person in my dream actually died in a car crash. He got decapitated in the crash which killed two friends of mine. But what was really trippy was that the person who attended the scene was actually his father who was an ambulance driver(which I honestly didnt know).. so his father was the poor ambulance driver that found his son dead.

So yeah I believe in precog dreams because of that one dream. I've had a few others but nothing quite like that one. If I hadnt of dreamt that dream I wouldnt be sure but for me now.. I'm sure as sure.

I could tell another dream which is kinda suited to the thread... to be honest it was an induced dream where I took some Brugmansia(white angel trumpet)on christmas eve instead of eggnog. After stumbling into my room I crashed out and had two dreams. One was just me staring at a big orange Cheshire cat which was sitting on a tree stump. He was smiling which kinda looked pretty scary because he had big teeth, but in the end I just smiled back. So that was weird. But the other one I dreamt I dreamt I was at a christmas party which had an open fire place(turned off)with a single christmas stocking hanging down. In the stocking there was baby who I could only see the top of her head but I just knew she was a girl. So it was like she was sleeping and everyone around was drinking a toast to her and I was just watching over their shoulders. Anyway that was about it.. a toast to the christmas baby in the stocking.

In the morning I got a message from my girl friend at the time.. saying how her sister had come over from the other side of the country for christmas.. she said that her sister had thought that she might be pregnent so they actually did a self test on chistmas eve with the whole family around. Which ended up being positive of course and so she said that her chistmas eve turned out to be this extra bonus because they all found out about the new baby together(her sister waited for the occasion). So I told my friend that it would be a girl and she told everyone, and when it was born it was.

So yeah.. thats the other dream that made me believe in them more because it was so trippy. It felt more like an OBE though or something.

They are definitely real. I had one which I am 100 percent certain was precognitive. I would rather believe that the world is flat then that this dream was a coincidence.

It's possible to test them experimentally, which was done with very significant results, sorry I can't remember the reference, but this is how the experiment was conducted:

1) A group of people ( say group A ) picks on a dramatic scene randomly from a list of scenes which was created by a separate group. they write the scene number on a paper, put it in an envelope, and give it to another group to keep safe.
2) A person ( say a woman ) sleeps with a machine that check for REM. when REM is detected she is waken by the examiner, and she writes her dreams. The report is then taken and kept safely.
3) Early in the morning she is waked by the people of group A, and they perform on her this dramatic scene that they picked randomly earlier.
4) Separate judges observe the description of the dreams she had during the night, and they have to decide which of the scenes in the list of scenes, is best described by the dreams. If this scene is the scene selected by group A, then the it's a hit, otherwise it's a miss.

The hypothesis is that if the scene is very dramatic and unusual, there is a good chance of a precognitive dream.

This way it is possible to prove precognitive dreams. The problem with this experiment is that it is complicated to set up. You need several separate groups of people, which must not share the information, so you need also inspectors that make sure no information is shared, and that the strict methodology is kept, and in order to get reliable results you need to repeat the experiment as many times as possible, and this means many people need to give much of their time and effort.
However, it's easy to do this experiment non scientifically with friends. the only problem will be checking for REM.
