11:11, Coincidence?

As best as I've been able to figure out, this all started a little more than a month ago. I suppose it went something like this: One evening, I looked at a clock. It read '11:11'. Then, the next day, I happened upon myself glancing at a clock, again, at '11:11'. Anyways, this has been happening at a rate of every other day, if not more frequently, ever since. My first assumption is that my subconscious has decided to set '11:11' alarms for me just to keep the 'phenomenon' going because, really, its kinda funny as I do enjoy finding that I've 'done it again'. What I'm really after here though, is opinions on what this time/number could mean outside of my desire to perpetuate a fun little occurrence. I'm interested in and look forward to reading, any and all opinions on the matter, this being my first, albeit skeptical, venture into numerology. I hope the tentativeness with which I will likely approach your replies does not discourage anyone from responding, I'm trying to keep an open mind and am hoping to maybe learn something here.

With no conscious effort on my part, I, for whatever reason, find myself looking at a clock at '11:11'. Though, I have yet to wake up from a sleeping state and have it happen. Every time that this has happened I've been undeniably awake, I even make sure that I do several reality checks just to make sure. Now, if only I could incubate a dream to pick-up at around '11:10' dream time, I'd be in lucid heaven And, just to clarify, they have always been digital clocks/watches that I end up looking at. So, it isn't the case that it is just close to '11:11' or that it appears as though its '11:11', like it might with an analog clock, if that makes a difference.

Haha, that used to happen to me often during vacation. Usually, when I sit at my computer around midday and I check the clock on it it's around 13:36 - 38. 1:36-38 pm if you want so. No joke

I've been an "11:11er" for most of my life. Never really thought too much about it until my niece started telling me about it happening to her all the time. Digging into it, I find there's a whole movement and belief system surrounding the phenomenon. I don't buy into it at all - but it is amusing. It's almost like an 11:11 religion. Do some searching if you are looking for entertainment.

To be frank, I think it's pretty retarded. The fact here is that you are not factoring in the hundreds of other times you look at the clock and it is NOT 11:11. Just the fact that you remember that number, it stands out for you. Every number can be seen repeated throughout your life if you are set to think it is everywhere. Really though, if you look at a clock hundred times each day and one of those times its 11:11, it's really not that amazing.

That being said, I realize that it could just as easily be the case that I find myself checking the time at '1:36' or '1:38', but guess what? That isn't the case. I haven't repeatedly found myself looking at a clock 'round either of those times or any other time for that matter aside from '11:11'. Of course, people will always take notice of changes of the hour and half-hour as these changes correspond to specific events that take place during the day, e.g. the changing of television and radio programs. Which is why I think that this is an amusing coincidence, there is nothing inherently special about '11:11' that should give me reason to want to look at a clock at that particular time. I never said I thought it was amazing. Its just a funny little coincidence that I wanted to share and get some opinions on from some people who might be more inclined to think that it is something more.

I wouldn't worry about numbers apearing as once you look for a number you will see it everywhere. 666 is a good example lots of people say they see this all the time saying their something evil behind it, however if you choose any number then your proberly see the number appear lots. If you don't care for the skeptical explanation then if you tell me what you believe i.e. religion then I will give you a anwser.

Yupp, happens to me too, but not 11:11. And almost any time during the day (without even looking at the clock for hours) I can decide what time it is. Believe this is quite normal though... Developer

Ataraxis: I'm not sure how this is getting lost in translation. It is that I end up looking at that time a lot! I'm sorry that you don't seem to understand where it is that I'm coming from with all this. It appears as though plenty of people have had experiences of this nature. I never recognized '11:11' as being special because all the digits are the same. In so far as I'm concerned, '11:11', in this case, could be any time on the clock. Also, I had never heard of any 'movement' around '11:11' until I had read the earlier post by pj. Lucky me, to have noticed that time of all times Its obvious that you have a few preconceived notions with regards to things of this nature, I know the feeling. I intended this to be an exploratory topic for me. I was just hoping to find out how other people, specifically those who subscribe to a belief in numerology/otherworldly things, might interpret an experience like this. Thanks pj, btw. Oh, and to Merlock and wendylove, I appreciate your replies but I wanted to address the fact that both of you seem to agree that this is more about a fascination with a number than it is queer interest in an occurrence, specifically recognizing a certain time on clocks. wendylove: I do care to hear the 'skeptical explanations', if there are any more to be heard. And, with regards to what I believe, I'm certain, as of now, that this time is not significant to me personally, at all, outside of a chuckle every other day. Though, I am open minded and enjoy learning about other beliefs.

To me it just sounds like a body-clock thing... like how every morning I wake up at 6:45 exactly without an alarm (since I used to have an alarm set for that time for about a year, and it's sunk in).

Heh, the topic title caught my eye because I actually have noticed this. But yeah, nothing to get paranoid about. Just a coincidence, with a bit of placebo mixed in; you tend to forget and therefore disregard the times when the clock doesn't say 11.11.

It happened to me, except with 12:34. Then it started happening in dream, had my third lucid dream using it as a dream sign, because i always used to check 2x to see if i was seeing things. I've since got out of this "habit" when school started again.

My handwatch isn't digital but when I look at a digital one it's often something like 22:22.....which is superior to 11:11...
