That's very common. It probably happens to every one almost every night but, like dreams, we generally forget it. It's just hypnagogic imagery.
I know some people will be like, "You must have seen this image somewhere before in real life."
I know for certain I have never seen that image, nor any of the others I see in my mind at night.
It's easy to deny having ever seen it but we see and know far that we typically realize.
For example: Walk through a crowded street, amusement park, store, whatever. Ok, are you back? Good. Now let me pick 50 people from your journey. You've even made eye contact with half of this 50. Now tell, how many of these people have you "never seen on your life"?
I'm guessing that almost every single one of those people will invoke the same response from you: "I've never seen this man in my entire life." When he truth is, you actually saw him not 30 minutes ago. He's the guy who rang up your sale at the checkout counter.
So, to summarize: You've either seen that very image before of your seen similar ones; ones similar enough for you to comfortably assume it to be the very same image.
After all, the tattoo theme of a "zombie punk" is far from unheard of. I'm sure you've seen plenty of people throughout your life that have had similar tattoos, it just never made much of an impression on you to be a big deal. Until now, that is. Not to mention, there have been "zombie punks" in use for things like album cover, car stickers, T-shirts, cartoons, and many other things.
