Also, to rephrase my second paragraph into...simple terms, let me start by saying this:
The majority of people who astral project believe that they are projecting a part of themselves (the "astral body") into another realm -- the astral planes. This is another place outside the body; another dimension, if you will.
Now, many people discredit this due to no proof and also due to the fact that it's a pretty absurd statement. I personally have no holds; i'm skeptic but open to suggestion, but if you tell someone who has never heard of astral projection before, "it's when your 'soul' (for lack of better word) splits from your body and you go into another dimension," they'd probaby tell you to stop watching Star Trek reruns so much.
So along comes this different theory -- that when you dream, you're in the astral realm, and you've just projected if you become aware in your dreams. Sound familiar? That's right; this is lucid dreaming. This theory states lucid dreaming is really astral projection.
UNLESS proven that the dream realm is outside our own minds (which again, i am skeptic but open to suggestion), i think that this theory is just a way for astral projection to become easier to handle or maybe even a way for projectionists to hold on dearly to their beliefs through any means necessary. They're making something mystical about something that everyone experiences on a nightly basis.
I can see exactly why you'd think this as I used to think the same too. You can actually project in a way that is invisible to the physical world. The 2nd time I ever AP I happen to float into my mother's room and seen her and my father watching tv. I had woken right up and went in there and that is exactly what they were doing. The first time I ever AP I had got out of my body and I could see the covers over both bodies and I moved up a bit and it was sunny as hell, I was too excited and got sucked right back into my body and awoke.
This dimension they call the real time which is a mix of astral properties and physical. The astral dimension takes up the same space as the physical plane. Think of it like like radio frequency you can't see it but you know it's there because if you have something to manipulate the frequency you can do things. Same with energy, we have it but we can't see energy. You can actually feel energy in your body when your practice stimulating it.
Lucid Dream is basically an internal thing because you never actually leave your body, the reason why I think you can find your body is because your always projecting in the astral plane when you sleep. It's possible to miss the exit. The only thing that makes Lucid dreaming and AP possible is because you REMEMBERED it and you were CONSCIOUSLY AWARE.
So when you go from Lucid Dreamig to AP your basically drawing your conscious focus to your AP body. I'm not sure if you ever felt it but when your Lucid Dreaming you sometimes flicker from your physical body to your Dream Body. (Awareness wise) Going back and forth. Like sometimes you know your waking up and can feel your body in bed.
I know for me personally I know that when I project it's not internal, because when I WILD it's just a image I thought of that I get sucked into as opposed to Astral projecting I get pulled out my body and can even wave my body over my eyes and see the shadow lol.
Now I've just started getting back into AP, Dreaming ,etc. But from more experienced APs they've talked about lower planes where you see a bunch of projectors just standing there and unaware that they are projecting.
As far as AP and Dreaming go you'll know the difference regardless because the movement is different. You can't just walk or run like in a Lucid dream, you have to use belief and intent of being on like roller blades or driving a car in order to move. If you go into pictures you'd go into a virtual realm, (similar to lucid dreams?) this is why going through glass you must go in it backwards. There is many things different about astral projection.
I've had my fair share of dreams as I was a natural lucid dreamer and able to have ver vivid dreams due to my AP practices, and I can clearly say that they are different, but they are both out of body experiences because your not actually aware of your physical body in both. One's just internal and one's external.
