ouch! sleep paralysis/ap electrocution

i was almost asleep when the sound of a light rain shower and distant thunder outside pulled me out again. the hair on my arms stood up and i felt my body buzzing a little. this feeling grew to a full-fledged electrical surge. it held me paralyzed and i thought, i'm gonna get struck by lightening! what's goin' on? the thunder sounded so far away, i wasn't even sure if it was thunder or just the sound-wake of an airplane drifting in and out of the rain that i couldn't hear anymore because my ears were buzzing so loud. i thought about all the attention i've been giving to DV lately and thought, maybe i'm subconsciously trying to astral project. i managed with all my strength and willpower to grab my husband's arm and slur his name out, which he remembers. i just thought i should try to hold onto him, like ya do with the buddy system in the deep end of the pool at kiddie camp. when i took hold of his arm the feeling began to die down and finally went away. it really kind of hurt. are our souls surrounded by an invisible electric fence to keep us in the yard? am i crazy? (don't answer the latter.) got any insight?

Was this the first time that happened to you? I've been there several times with the paralysis, and slurred sleep or groaning is the common result of trying to cry out, or trying to talk. Seems its a live an learn situation in respect to overcoming the fear.

it was kind of the first time. i've woken up paralyzed before, or maybe it's a false or half-awakening, but i've had similar experiences before, where i wake up paralyzed and my whole body is vibrating like an engine. i've felt the electrical surge before, too, in a lucid dream where i asked jesus if i could see his face (i used to try to communicate with god in my lucid dreams) and he said, i can't do that, you're not ready or something like that, and i floated onto my back, saw dark space above me and in the clouds a face began to form and i felt that horrible surge begin so i turned away. i know the human body runs on electrical impulses, so it makes me wonder what is causing this feeling.
