      The Hidden Observer

I believe I just figured out how to hypnotize myself and enter a trance state. I looked it up, and it's called the hidden observer. It connects you with the subconscious where you can impress ideas on it and dream lucidly.

Basically, it's a very difficult technique where you make your attention slip down into the subconscious. Something like introverting yourself.

What you do is while laying down to go to sleep, instead of trying to consciously stop thoughts or trying to consciously stay awake, you actually just relax, but observe and witness thoughts that come to your mind. You'll see that the thoughts aren't who you are, but your also something that witnesses these thoughts. Thoughts are just things that come to your mind.

I've tried this two times and have had good results. The only trick is that you have to catch yourself because it's easy to "lose it" and fall unconscious. Practice makes perfect though.

Mods I really want this stickied and I want everyone to try this and post their results on a daily basis.

I did this a couple of hours ago and lost it during hypnagogia hallucinations. But you can tell that your getting somewhere, because sounds will start to sound more real and vivid like it's waking life, and you may start to see images or pictures from the subconscious.

When you get into this trance stage, it's much easier to just visualize something and imprint it onto your subconscious.

      Here are two interesting links.

The first one is for lucid dreaming, and the other is for hypnosis.

      http://www.psywww.com/intropsych/ch0..._observer.html

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidden_observer

I think the "hidden observer" is akin to the "higher self".

Basically the nitty-gritty is that this technique allows you to SWITCH roles in which you play the subconscious, your true self, and then you switch back over to your regular consciousness once you realize abnormalities or whatever.

When you go to sleep, Just watch your thoughts, observe them, don't just go to sleep, but actually witness your thoughts as they come to your head, while laying down falling asleep...................that's it. It puts you in a trance state. It turns your attention inside. Deep introversion. Lucid dreams are introversion. Observing your thoughts keep you aware as you fall asleep.

You can also lucid dream by doing this, but it will take practice. With this technique, you might see thought-patterns turn into images, pictures, scenes, dreams. But like i said, it takes practice because we're not used to awareness, so you will blink in and out.

For example, you might lay down and witness thoughts, fall unconscious for a bit and come back conscious and see different images, fall unconscious again, come back conscious and notice a subtle dream forming. And lose consciousness for the rest of the night.

Observing your thoughts keep you attention on. When your attention goes out, your unconscious.

I'm using this technique for few months already. It does work.....but at the begining it was hard! As you said, practice makes perfect.

This is a great method & in my opinion certainly one of the better ones. I highly recommend it. If you monkey mind is running around then I give him a toy/mantra to play with.

this is comaparable to ZEN and so far the easiest method i came across!

of course it takes some time mastering it but it´s worth the work.

you can do it everytime and everywhere - no need to do it at night.

      There's two layers of thoughts.

When I do the hidden observer technique while falling asleep, I start to notice subtle subconscious thoughts, NOT conscious thoughts that you can control. But a layer of thoughts under that, that just come.

I usually lose consciousness shortly after hearing subconscious thoughts, but this technique allows me to stay aware for longer.

I wonder if I should start visualization once I get to the "subconscious thought" stage, maybe something will happen.

I've been doing this for about a year now. Tricky to master but so worthwhile. I've had a flood of lucids from this technique. Plus it has cured my insomnia, because when I want to sleep, I can just not exercise so much control or focus and fall asleep. Slept for the first time ever on planes last year using this exact method!

i think this might be the "official" way to WILD.

It's a meditation that comes from buddhist monks I think, someone said Zen.
