Fantastic discussion on the tablet computer industry
At the recent mac deliberation the Apple boss was queried what the progression of IT was, and the Apple boss explained that he speculates that the future of the PC will be built on touch screen tablet computers.
His explanation was that we're at the moment employing touchscreen computers like satnavs, iphones, touchscreen based checkout amongst alternative machines. Also the future forcast presently is that PCs are being employed for looking up data as opposed it entering text.
Tablet PC Sales
2004-2008 3M devices sold
2008 2.5M units
2010 6M units
Naysayers on the other hand protest that prophesising the fate of the keyboard is similar to yearning for the fall of the truck in the transportation industry, even though the tablet computers do away with keyboards, they are yet impossible machines to enter vast quantities of data. And that voice detecton are still more or less in its birth.
Whether the fall of key input devices is probable or not, its apparant that Apple corp has a lot riding on it taking place in future, as their couple of umpteen latest releases have finished with the keyboard permanently. However what appears clear is that a growing number of computers are utilised for browsing for casual use. Social Networking sites have reduced the quanitity of text from being passed everywhere per message, and most web users rarely need to enter large volumes of text.
However, what everyone does know though is that the tablet PC has been in service in the commercial sector a long time Apple corp leared about tablet pcs, Commercial touchscreen devices have been in deployment since 5 years ago, Tablet PC systems are feasable because character input devices are in practice much more fragile than touchpads and liable to breakage and spillage problems whilst well built tablet PC systems can be easily protected from grazing and bumps.
Another thing that Apple has done right is the tablet PC technology down to perfection, early tablet pc systems and in deed some modern commercial tablet pc systems are yet bound by a stylus, the ipad and iPhone are ridiculously hugely more precise when used with fingertips. It's apparant that Apple corp have overcome a huge hurdle as the tablet pc pen dependency was the single most essential variable restraining tablet pc systems in the last decade from going popular. Future improvements that can be counted on are innovative ways of introducing key input on a slate tablet pc without resorting to lug around a gigantic key input device. Maybe by way of a slim acrylic device with a full size keyboard or a a holographic keyboard which lights up on a table which functions by scanning your finger tip points.
Finally, will the tablet pc spur the decline of the desktop pc? Nobody knows for sure, I figure time will be the teacher. Whatever fruitions we shall eternally be the trendsetter to jump onto the most recent technology and eager to witness what direction thetablet pc sector goes.
