Trying to Lucid Dream actually worked!

Since my last lucid dream I have been actively trying to wake myself up during a dream so I can become lucid. I have found that it seems to be something that takes some practice! I've been thinking about lucid dreaming a lot during day to day activities and doing some 'reality checks' to test if I am awake.
In this dream I was walking through a dim narrow corridor with a work mate called Raechel. There was a slim middle-aged man wearing a blue/grey shirt bald with glasses who was telling me to constantly question if I was awake (something sunk in haha!).
I walked with Raechel through a doorway and looked down to find that I was holding a cup. I became lucid at this point and tried falling backwards and spinning to stay in the dream. When I looked up from the cup, Raechel was gone so I looked back to the doorway I had walked through and called out her name. Then I turned to the door in front of me and called out "Rose", the name of the first girl who I loved and who broke my heart. (I am currently trying to get over her in my real life). I touched the walls of the corridor and discovered they were covered in snow so I wrote in large, looping, connected capital letters "ROSE I <3 U" before waking up to write down the dream.
