      Viewing myself in 3rd person

The other night I had a dream where I couldn't find my music (I play bass in my church). This is my dreamsign, always happening in the dreamscape. I decided to do a reality check to see if I was dreaming (I took the fact that I was dreaming half seriously) much to my amazement, I could breathe through my nose even though it was pinched. However, even after I was conscious in my dream, I viewed myself in third person (looking at myself from above and to my right). It only switched to first person after I chose to go outside of the church to try to fly. As a side note, whenever I remember my past I remember it from a third person point of view as if watching myself in a movie. So now, I can remember if I actually was in third person or just remembering the dream that way. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

It is surprisingly common. I have many 3rd person dreams. However, I don't remember events in 3rd person. Perhaps focusing on the direction you were looking at things from can help you determine wether or not you were really in 3rd person in the dream.

Thanks, it feels better to know that it is common.

Nearly all of my dreams use some kind of third-person vantage point. I've attributed this to the fact that I'm a photographer and imagine all scenarios this way, but it's interesting to hear that it's more common than I thought. Maybe we're all really imagining ourselves as the stars in our own mental movies....

I almost always remember dreams in third person though I experience them in first person. Trust me, this is normal. I wonder, how hard would it be to try and change your vantage point with lucid dreaming?

I have tons of dreams in 3rd person, but only a very small number of lucids that were that way. Some of my 3rd person dreams I don't even appear in as a character!
