      please help me.

I'm really having trouble controlling my dreams lately.
I've been dreaming lucidly for... I don't know how long now, I think for the biggest part of my life.
I never learned how to do it, I just.. do.
but lately, my dreams have been turning bad on me, I lose control, and really scary things start to happen.
I'll describe the other day, I "made" my dream go into one of my favourite scenario's, where my home town is overrun by enemy's (alien/zombie like creatures) and I allways take my dads car, and find some weapons, and after saving the cute girl in my street, I drive to the forest and start a community there.
but this time, my dream started going sour whilst I was driving to the forest, my car first broke down.
After that, I couldn't find my weapons, and when I looked at my girlfriend, her face was all distorted and stuff, I woke myself up, and couldn't sleep for several hours.
I had this with mutiple dreams, and in a lot of different scenario's.
please help me, I can hardly sleep normally now.

      Hello

      Hi and welcome Sporadic

Just as in our waking life we have moments of confidence and moments that our confidence can be shattered. But confidence is something that is not you or me. Just as being non confidant is as well. But we can regain our confidence. It seems to me that you at this point in your dreams have lost your confidence. But as you know that it is merley a dream you can begin to regain your confidence by believing that in your dreams your consequences cannot make or break you.

thank you, after reading that three times, I think I got the point...
but eventhough the dreams dont seem to have any consequences in real life, they DO cause for me to have a lack of sleep.
is there no tactic or something to help a person regain control of their dreams?

I have to think that since you have been controlling your dreams most of your life, there must be something causing this sudden wave of uncontrollability (is that even a word lol). Anyway...I suggest you sit down and examine your life and what factors may be attributing to you either losing control or feeling like you have lost control. As Howetzer said, when we feel that we are not confident in waking life, this will most certainly transfer over into our dreams. So try to identify and eliminate (or at least attempt to overcome) whatever might be causing you to feel this lack of control.

Now, as to regaining control. Since you have been dreaming lucidly with much control most of your life it will take some practice I am guessing for you to learn techniques to control your dreams. The members of this site who aren't naturals have to work VERY hard in able to attain a level of control that you have been blessed to have most of your life. In fact, there are many fantastic suggestions in this Dream Control forum about how to regain control, or change things in your dreams.

Perhaps to begin with you must first "take back" the control by reassuring your mind that you are, in fact, dreaming and you have the power to control your dreams. A good and simple way to do this would be to perform a reality check like sticking your finger through your palm. Doing something so simple that allows your mind to confirm that you are dreaming may help you to regain control. When things go wrong in your dream try using some verbal commands like "take back control" "start car engine now" ...etc. Or try some tricks like...think to yourself that if you hit the car a certain way it will start again. Look away from your girlfriend and think to yourself that when you look back again she will be normal.

It is probably unusual for you to have to do these things...but these are things that we all must do (who are less experienced in controlling our dreams) in order to get things to turn out right. People are always morphing and changing on me and it's frustrating as hell. I don't think you know how lucky you are to have had such control over your dreams as long as you have had.

And hopefully you can find out what is causing this lack of control and get rid of it. Also, I noticed that when we dream about something bad (like say you had this lack of control for one dream) then we get paranoid about it and start thinking about it more and more which leads it to happen again in proceeding dreams, sort of like a domino effect. So that could also be what is happened. Perhaps you just need to let all your dominos fall down (try to stop thinking and stressing about it)...and eventually your dreams will get back to normal.

Hope I have been of some help. Feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions.

      -nina

ps - one of my favorite lucid dreams I ever had was one in which aliens were taking over the town and everyone was running about in chaos, I remember seeing a parked car and thinking that there would be weapons in the trunk so I opened the trunk and there were a bunch of "gun parts"...so I pieced together all these metal objects and started shooting at the flying saucers...but I must have put it together wrong because I was just shooting blanks hehe...anyway your dream reminded me of that

same with nina. the thing that sounds the most logical is that something happened in your life to make such a sudden change in your dreams behaviour.

Along with nina's suggestions, try something new in your life(preferably one with positive effects) like sports or running.

You could also try hypnosis. The HILD(in the tutorial section) and try to fix it so it solves your problem

      good luck

okay, I'm getting freaked out now, not only are my dreams going wrong allmost instantly now, theres also a "black shape" thingy in the far left corer all the time, and I feel an incredible fear for it, even though I have no clue what it is...
I spend more time waking than sleeping now, and its starting to get to me.
I cant imagine what could be a big change in my life, considering its just summer holiday, theres nothing really going on at all...
I'll try a HILD next time...
      thx for the help anyway...

      A confident state of mind

Sorry Sporadic my first post was hard to make any sense of.

This black shape. Considering you react to most things at this point as a negetive response, how might it effect you if you welcomed the black spot. Who has labled this bad? You.

Psychologists that are versed in LD's say to face your fears and even embrace them to make friends with them because they are part of your own mind. You can ask them what they want or try telling them that you like or love them. You might be surprised to find victory in solving a problem within your self. Don't forget to ask them what the meaning of there being there might be. Even if you don't get an answer you may be pleased with the results.

okya, what I used to do with scary images and things, is turn it into a huge furry thing which was soft and cuddly, but I have no control anymore, and the fear just makes sure I cant move or do anything.
I tried a HILD last night, the only result it got me is that I became really relaxed after counting to 100 (read the tut to know what I'm talking about) and I then "willed" the weights on my ankles and stuff, but it didn't really get me anywhere, exept for the fact that my legs have been really tired all day. I'm trying again tonight.
I also have been having flashes of the black shape today, eventhough it doesn't look so scary in daylight, i still had this irrational fear for it...
thx again for all the help, you are a great support.

I have had one dream like this.. I was in a church, with my brother in law. He is not well,, anyway, it was only us and I became lucid, we were the only ones in the church and we were in front of the alter,, I looked at him and he began to panick and then so did I,, we began to run, and it became slow motion, and I felt something evil right behind us, and as I was so scarred I was thinking,, how did I lose controll of this,, and then I woke up,,, It really scared me.
I never lost controll in a lucid dream before.
      And the whole church thing?
But when I looked at the dream.. , my brother in law had been pretty close to death,, ( he is doing better now) Maybe when I saw him, it was in my mind his fear of dying and not wanting to go yet.??
I have had many great lucid dreams since then. Hang in there..
I think you have to come to the best place to get geat advise

well, I did a HILD last night, and I'm not sure if it was the HILD or my "natural LD" stuff, but at least the dream went good *yay*
heres what happened: I began the procedure for a HILD, and I think I fell asleep at some part, cuz suddenly I was outside on the square.
as I stood up, I noticed again the black shape in my left corner, so I "summoned" a mac-light (a very powerfull torch-light) and I shone it to the left whilst keeping my head in the same direction (the shape turned when I tried to turn my head).
As I shone the light upon it, I noticed it was a man, about 40-50 years old, but I'm pretty sure I never saw him before.
I just asked him what he wanted from me (in a, I must admit, slight panic tone).
he did not answer, but simply walked out of view.
after that, I had full control back of my dream, and I spent the rest of my LD flying over, and swimming in a huge lake.

thank you all for your help, I don't know how I would've handled this without you all.

My guess is that your Dreaming Mind, for the longest time, allowed you an opportunity to play. Your profile says that you are a student, and so the inference is that you were only until recently still a child. But now you are becoming an adult and your Subconscious or Superconscious Mind, the Mind that controls your dreaming, is asserting some adult responsibility. You can no longer fritter away your dreams on empty meaningless fantacy, but your Subconscious Mind is now insisting upon bringing up real existential issues.

Check out some of these essays, recently published on this Site : http://www.sawka.com/spiritwatch/tableof.htm Particularly search up the essay by Dr. Ann Faraday. Some 30 years ago she published a book which utilized research on the Senoi Tribe of Aborigines -- research then that was still thought valid. It was this research that first provided the impetus for supposing that Dream Control was some absolute. Subsequently, though, it was found that the original research, upon which the Theories of Lucid Dreaming were predicated was almost entirely fabricated. In all actuality the People of the Senoi Tribes would find it a blasphemy to override the Wisdom of their Dreaming by exercising some selfish and individualistic 'control' over their dream content. Dream Content is seen as sacred and it would seem nonsensical to destroy valid dream content for the sake of idle and ultimately solipsistic enjoyment.

So, anyway, forget some absolute escapist Dream Control and get used to the notion that your Subconscious Mind will be using dreams in order to pose certain moral and spiritual scenarios for your consideration. Dreams are tests -- tests of understanding and moral tests to determine what our moral and spiritual choices amount to. So it is that our dreams can help us develop and mature, if we give them the consideration which their importance merits. Or if we choose to ignore our dreams, then the instructions and advice that had formerly made up our dreams, will turn progressively more and more into dire warnings and finally into nightmare punishments for having despised their Wisdom.

its weird, cuz I felt releived and dissapointed at the same time, because as soon as the man apeared, I was very curious, more than afraid... but when he walked out of sight I just felt some dissapointement...
