      Need help!

I have been trying to have a lucid dream for a while now but it keeps failing. I just found this forum and thought someone could help.

      Hi Tom, and welcome!

First I would recommend that you read all the material on the DreamViews Main Site, then browse through the Tutorials section. There's a lot of good information there to get you started. Then, if you have specific questions about some of the methods, please post them here, and I'm sure you'll get some answers.

You say that you've been trying to lucid dream for a while, but it might be helpful if we knew exactly what methods you've tried.

Also, how's your dream recall? If you don't remember much about your dreams, that's the first place to start, because you'll never get lucid if you don't (or maybe you'll get lucid and not remember it after you wake up). If you haven't already started a dream journal, do so. Writing down anything you can remember about your dreams really helps your mind learn how to remember them.

Reality checks have never worked very well for me, except to confirm that I'm dreaming when I already am at least partially lucid. To achieve lucidity in the first place, I highly recommend that you give a try to the MILD and WBTB methods. They seem to work for the widest variety of people, and are the only ones with which I've had much success.

Great! Just don't get discouraged if they don't work right away. I think I had to practice those techniques for about 2 weeks before I had any results. Everyone is different -- just keep at it. And most importantly, be confident! If you doubt that you will become lucid, then you probably won't. Tell yourself that it will happen (and really believe it), and you'll increase your chances many times over.

      Good luck!

Flying is always cool. Other things I've done include shooting energy beams from my hands, and doing the Spider-Man thing.

Also, check out the thread for the Lucid Task of the Month ™, and give that a try -- if you can remember to do it when you become lucid, that is.

That's normal. But Congratulations anyway. That's a big step.
